wrinkles...ack!
Permalink Closed

so i was sitting on my bathroom counter the other day and being super close to the mirror, i noticed these lines around my eyes.  i have wrinkles!  i'm only 26!  must.stop.them.NOW!

i need product recommendations so i can nip these babies in the bud!  i don't currently use any eye cream (bad, i know).  would this help?  or do i need an actual wrinkle cream?

I have used wrinkle cream for my eyes since I was about 24.  My wrinkles are still there and probably worse.  I have tried different brands from drugstore to department store.  I don't think anything OTC is going to stop wrinkles.  I think only true intervention from a doc. can do that.  I do think that the moisturizing helps though.  Hey, there's nothing wrong with wrinkles, they show character (at least that's what I tell myself about my crow's feet and other eye wrinkles).

I have had very fine lines around my eyes since I was about 22. Everyone around me swears they can't see them, but *I* can. Luckily they haven't gotten worse. Drew is probably right about nothing OTC getting rid of them, but the finer they are, the easier they are to get rid of.

Someone here (I think sfclinevandy?) turned me on to this stuff, and I have noticed mine A LOT less since I started using it. (So thanks, SFC!)

RoC - Retinol Correxion Eye Cream - .5 fl oz

I use the same stuff Halleybird uses.

I'm very paranoid about getting crow's feet, so I try to do all that I can to lessen their appearance. I started noticing fine lines around my eyes last year, so I've been using Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye Cream and it's helped somewhat. The one that halleybird posted looks good too. I've heard a lot of good things about Roc.

Here are some other tips that I've read:

Get your eyes checked regularly. Apparently if you have bad vision, you tend to squint, which then causes fine lines.

Wear sunglasses when it's sunny out.

Avoid smoking and/or cigarette smoke.

I also think that it's important to moisturize the area. Someone posted on here that dry skin tends to cause wrinkles, or something like that, so I try to follow this advice as well.

I too have heard good things about ROC, FWIW!

Also, my dermatologist highly recommends wearing polarized sunglasses almost all the time, even when it's cloudy. They cut out all of the sun's glare, meaning you stop squinting. It helps a lot. I love mine so much!

I use the ROC stuff halleybird posted.  According to my friend who is a plastic surgery resident the only thing proven to *help* wrinkles which already exist is Retinol, which the ROC stuff contains.

I wear huge sunglasses all the time. No matter what the weather's like. If I'm outdoors, I have sunglasses on. I get headaches from bright lights, so I can always use that excuse but really it's because I don't want to get wrinkles.

I also use Estee Lauder's eye/night stuff. I can seriously tell the difference in the skin around my eyes when I wear it and when I don't. It's this stuff:

bAdvanced Night Repair/bbrEye Recovery ComplexIt's $48 but it lasts forever. I always get the free gift and a sample of it comes in there and I use that, instead of buying it for real. It lasts so long that I've never had to buy the real thing, although I might forego the gift and just go for it this year.

P.S. It also helps my dark circles and puffiness go away. It's really the only thing I've ever used that makes a difference with my dark circles.

Sunscreen, if you don't already .

I started getting fine lines around my eyes when I was about 16 , but mine haven't gotten any worse since I've been extra careful to put sunscreen under my eyes everyday.

i do use sunscreen on my face everyday...but can i put it right up under and around my eyes?  it won't get in my eyes and sting?  i'm scared of this (as a contact wearer, esp).

I use my Olay moisturizer around my eyes and on my lids every time I wash my face.  I always stay out of the sun and wear sunglasses (and a hat when I'm outside for longer amounts of time).

I'm not to worried about wrinkles, nobody in my family is wrinkled.  I think not smoking, drinking, or tanning is a huge factor.  Way back when, there was this lady at my church who wasn't that older than my mom and she had HUGE crows feet (and my sister and I secretly made fun of her because she was mean to us) that nearly ran down to her jaw!
