So I have decided to suck it up and go get my eyes checked. I don't have vision insurance so I need a place that does a great job but won't break the bank. I will need to get an exam and lenses/frames. Where do you ladies go? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Honestly, I usually just do lenscrafters or wherever is in the mall. With one excepetion of one doctor that was a complete bitch, I've always had a good experience and you can usually get a good deal. Places like this always seem to have exam and frame or exam and contact packages for like $99-$130.

Go to Costco. Most have optical offices and their frames are all pretty inexpensive!

I've done both LensCrafters and Costco...both are generally good, especially if you don't have any eye problems requiring special care.

I just went today.  I go to Paris Miki Optical which is in a mall.  My insurance is shitty, so I pay for everything myself (which they rather like since they don't have to deal with the paperwork).

My optrician is a nice and comfortable to be around.  He explains everything really well, let's me know how my eyes are, if they changed any since the last exam, etc.

Here is what I pay:

Eye exam- $70

Lenses- $79 (single vision)

Frames- This varies greatly depending if you want designer or a low price pair.  But I go for the good stuff since these are on my face everyday.  Just pick what looks best on your face and matches your style.  And the prices will be inflated about 20% (just compare to what prices are on a website like eyeglasses.com) because for most people insurance covers it all so they don't need to worry about the price.

you should try checking with sears.  they usually have some kind of sale going on like a %50 off or 2 pairs for $100.  they don't have their own eye exams though. i go to an eye doctor to get my exam and then take my prescription to sears.  most places will do an eye exam for $25-$45
