seriously, every time i decide to get a good everyday black bag i invariably *always* end up liking it in another color.  like right now i'm looking at the gucci large (or medium) hobo w/ horsebit detail and i thought it would be a great black bag but of course i saw it irl in the chocolate guccisima print and i like it better in that.

and remember the ones dot posted?  that fabulous botkier and hayden harnett?  i liked the hayden better in the camel color and the botkier better in gold.  this always happens so i never end up getting a black bag!  sorry for the vent but i feel like there is this big hole in my bag wardrobe and i can never fill it!

i know what you mean.  i don't need any more tan bags, but inevitably, it's always my favorite color that the bag comes in.  the only bag this didn't happen with is the fendi spy bag.

not to be a pollyanna, but i notice that i tend to always use my tan, brown, and colored bags with black.  if you like the gucci in brown (it's gorgeous) then get it it in brown.  black bags are overrated.

I'm the same way. I think I just don't like black bags. Which is a shame, since I really need one....

i know where you are coming from 100%. honestly just bite the bullet and buy a bag you like in black... you won't regret it. it may be fabulous in other colors but a basic black bag is totally necessary!

i bought a balenciaga recently and though i thought black was too basic and too easily ripped off.. i decided to buy it in black anyway because i figured that there was longevity in black. i seriously have not taken this bag off my shoulder since the day i bought it. i used my new botkier in gold just once but only because i had it for a week and hadn't worn it out yet. after one use, it went back in its dustbag... maybe i won't see it again until summer.

having a black bag in a shape i like has filled a big void in my wardrobe and i am really happy with it... just go for it!

i personally try to shy away from black bags on purpose... i think that a good bronze, camel or brown can be just as versatile and more interesting!

I'm having the exact same issue. My problem is, having recently purchased an expensive chocolate brown bag and a slighty expensive light brown bag, I don't want to spend more than $100. Every bag I have seen in my price range looks so cheap.

I know your dilemma! I'm facing it too! Gah!

I can't find a black bag I in my price range (under $500)...I always like the other colors bettee too!

FWIW, I saw a black Ferragamo bag at Bloomies in Century City on Friday that was so gorgeous I would've bought it on the spot if it didn't cost over two weeks of my pay. That's the only bag I've seen that I like best in black.

Nice inexpensive one, so you can save the rest of your bag budge for 'funner' purchases .

Hmmm...I'm going to play the other side just for fun.

If you've managed this long without a black bag, do you really need one?  How often do you walk out the door wishing you were carrying a black bag instead of one of your current bags?

I agree with luckylily on this one. I always prefer a color other than black. I felt I "needed" a black handbag, just because I didn't have one. I recently bought one, but I have only used it once even though I really like it. I don't see the sense in spending a lot of money on a black bag just to fill a hole, if you don't really find yourself lacking a black bag.

I can never find a black bag I like either!  All the ones in my price range (under $300) have that ugly white stitching or look bikery.

Good, I thought I was the only one that didn't like white stitching on black bags! I think that even a $900 bag looks cheap with white stitching.

I think we are two of the same.  I have such a hard time finding a black bag for everyday use.  I usually like the bag in a different color.  Hold strong and hold out for the black everyday use bag.  It might take some time but one will eventually pop up!

thank you so much you guys.  you all gave me a lot to think about and made me feel better all at the same time.

tara t-- i love this one:

Super Shopping Tote

shopgirl82--this one is fabulous!

NMOS6_V6453

luckylily--i'm totally going to go through my wardrobe now (clothes + shoes) to determine what outfits/pieces absolutely *need* a black bag to "complete" them.

stay tuned and thanks again!
