I went shopping today for my first suit. I was planning on spending somewhere between $400-$500. I tried on a bunch of BCBG suits and a Nanette Lepore suit. The BCBG suits looked pretty standard but truthfully a little boring. And then I tried on the Nanette Lepore suit....OH LORDIE. I wish I had a picture but I don't. It's a skirt suit and it is black....but it looking absolutely amazing on me. Whereas the others made me look like any other person on the street (and sorta boring....I thought I looked like I was working in a hotel). But the Nanette Lepore suit is $700. And I bought it!! What should I do? Should I keep it or return it and buy a more standard suit? Please advise I'm feeling really guilty. Here's the thing, I'm in grad school but I live at home. So I have the money but I could be saving it. Spend $700 or half of that? I think one of the BCBG suits I tried on was actually a little less than $400.
If you are at a size that you like, I say keep it because you could wear it forever. Especially since you love the way it looks on you. But if you're like me and you want to lose weight, I'd return it for something cheaper.
Personally, i would keep it. If it fits as good as you say it does, it will be something you can wear forever. A classic suit can last a lifetime and i think you would get your moneys worth out of it, and if you return it.. you will forever be wishing you had it.

i think nanette lepore suits can be "broken up" better, especially the jackets (with denim). i think it's a good investment. i gaurantee you that the bcbg suit will go 70% off around memorial day, so at least you know the size if you still want it then and can order it for 70% off of the original price, rather than paying the original price.

If it is the fit of the other suits you don't like could it be fixed taking to a tailor? If the style and cut of the Lapore suit is what you like and you can't find anything similar then it's worth the investment, feeling beautiful and confident is always worth it! If it's a classic style black suit you'll be able to wear it for a long time.
