girls sho have tried the luella/target shirtdress
Permalink Closed

i just bought the luella target shirtdress in black (love it!) and was planning to wear it to my friend's post-wedding brunch.  i had tried it on over my jeans, so i didn't really notice how short it was.  got home and tried it on as a dress, with a pair of peep toe, slingback wedges and noticed that it's pretty short.  (i'm 5'2 -- the front and back come down to a respectable point about 4" above my knee, but the sides are shorter.)  it's not pornographic short, and it looks okay ... i'm comfortable with the amount of leg it shows ...so

does anyone else wear it as a dress?  is it inappropriate for a sunday brunch (i should say the crowd is not super conservative, and it's fine for the venue), and if so, could i pull it off with: a.  a pair of kitten heel, pointy toe brown croc boots (nine west)? or b. a pair of green pointy toe suede flats (gap)?

i wish i could post pics -- my camera is not working though.

i have the striped version. it's definitely shorter than i expected, but i have worn it as a dress. the main issue i had with it was that it rides up a lot, but as long as you're aware of it, it's not obscene or anything. though i did make sure that every time i sat down, i covered my legs with like a coat or something to be safe.

I've been looking for a shirtdress...I'm not a dress-over-jeans kinda person, so I didn't try that, but when I put it on I felt like I put on a man's shirt and belted it.  I'm 5'4" and I felt like it was way too short on the sides.  I really liked the two I tried on (black and a light plaid), but I didn't buy them.  They would have been so cute on, too, if they didn't go up on the sides!

I tried the shirt dress on in the stripes and I Loved the way it fit. However, I don't like the curved hem..so I left it at target!  It fits great though...I just have a personal hatred for things without a straight hem on me!

it is really cute on.  i was suprised that they had any left, but there were 8 or 9 of them, only in black.

I saw them in person -- they ARE short! I am 5'7" and they would be indecent on me. But if you're 5'2" it would probably be a cute length. I wonder if you could layer one of those T-shirt tank-style dresses under it, too.

I have the shirtdress and wear it with jeans.  I would be uncomfortable wearing it as a dress..but i've never really been a dress/skirt girl.  I think if you feel comfortable with the length then go for it.  And i vote for the green flats.

i thought i should add that i'm pretty comfy in short skirts. i live in denim minis in the summer. also fwiw if i wear it again as a dress i'm going to wear fryes with it.

eta: go with the flats. i think it would look off with pointy toe boots. when i wore it i wore those round toe caged heels from payless.  it actually was not my preferred combo. but i had no choice.

I'm planning to wear it as a tunic. If it had been a little bit longer and a straight hem, then I could see wearing it as a dress.

Or maybe button the dress down to the waist, belted, and layer a slightly longer skirt or slipdress under it...
