Ive never had one... and was wondering if they are really worth the money and improve your skin.  My skin right now is somewhat dry, red tones, and very blah... Im craving to have that glowing skin, and i realize a facial isn't a miracle worker.  But would it help?  Im going to the dermatologist tomorrow, should i ask him about it, or is that useless?

Also, just curious... im going to the derm just for like a checkup persay, theres nothing wrong with me, im just not happy with my face.. its red, get occasional break outs... Is this normal to schedule an appt for basically nothing?  Im not even sure what to say when i see him tomorrow lol.

It's hard to say. My skin is definitely not as good now as it used to be when I had a facial every month (I think twice a month is overkill, and I think those go-every-week-for-six-week-thingy they tell you to do are a scam). But I have a lot more stress in my life, and a much worse diet now, too, so other things factor in. Overall, though, I loved them even more than a massage. Incredibly relaxing, and my skin was the best its ever been when I was getting them (of course, I was taking very good care of myself then too, so who's to say if it's cause or correlation). So, I hope all this on-the-other-handing helped a little. Geez. Law school is ruining my brain...

Well im in grad school as well, and so I wouldn't be able to get a facial all the time, and if i end up getting one this weekend, i really dont know when i will ever be getting one in the future, so would it still make a difference if I just got one, without getting one every month or every other month?

I got one last week for the first time in a few years and my skin still looks better.  The first few days after, my skin was a tiny bit red, but it's very soft and smooth right now.  I'm going to try to go once a month now because it is REALLY relaxing.

If you decide to get a facial, you should expect the following:  some sort of cleansing, steam, an exfoliation, extraction (the only part of the process that's uncomfortable--they pop any zits and blackheads), then a mask, shoulder and face massage, and a relaxation time.  It's wonderful.

I say give it a shot and if you don't like it or don't notice a difference, you don't need to go back.

I would definitely go get one. I love them and I always feel like me skin looks better after them. However...

I just got a facial this month after about a year or two of none. I used to go to this really awesome swedish lady...she really rocked. But I went to this local salon that everyone always raves about because I had a giftcard for it.

I was SO disappointed...my warning to you is to ask exactly what a "facial" involves.

This lady basically steamed me for about a minute, cleansed me, masked me, moisturized me and let me go. I felt really screwed over...I can do that on a weekly basis at home. She barely massaged my neck and stuff as she moisturized. This was not what I expected.

My favorite part of a facial is the extractions...and I got nothing!

So, before you pick a place, be sure what their service includes.
