So I just got to thinking...how important is it to take your BC pill at the same time every day?  I take mine when I go to bed, which depending on the day of the week is usually anywhere between 10 and 1.  Is it okay to vary by like 3 hours or should I be taking it at 10pm every night?

I don't think a few hours matters. I think they just don't want you to take one at night, then one in the morning, then one in the afternoon, etc.

I think they say to take it as close to 24 hours as possible but I doubt a few hours matters. Well, from personal experience I have to assume it doesn't. I take mine in the morning & have varied a few hours for oh, the past 15 years or so without getting pregnant.

ETA: I bet if you looked at that insert it addresses it. I haven't read that thing in years but I remember it being somewhat fascinating.

On a total hijack, have you seen the cute custom packs you can get? One is red with shoes..is it wrong that I'm considering spending $20 on it so my pills are cute in my purse?

It doesn't matter what time you take it, they tell you to take it at the same time, so that you don't forget to take it and your more on a schedule. At least thats what the pharmcists i used to work with told the customers.

Well, I think the info that comes with a pack qualifies it as 2 or more hours, right? That said, I think it depends on how you're taking it. I mean, if you take it at 10 on Friday, 12 on Saturday, 1 on Sunday and then 10 again on Monday, that's a lot of switching around. But if you start out the beginning of the month taking it at 10, and then get to 10:15-10:30 by the end of the week, I would think that was better. But that's just me. The bottom line is, you really don't want your body to go much longer than 24 hours without it.

ETA: my doc said something sort of similar to what nicoley said, but she was referring to people who have taken the pill for years without any breaks or skipped pills. It would be unlikely in those cases for you to ovulate based on just a couple of late hours. Does that make sense?

Okay, whew!  I've been taking the pill for 6 years now with these same habits and have never had a problem. *knock on wood* So I assumed it was alright, but just wanted to double check.

ETA:  Yes, laken1, I have seen those cute little pill packets.  So cute, but I hardly ever carry my pills with me (they're pretty much always on the nightstand) so I can't really justify $20 on something like that.

Here's a cute "condom cozy" in case anyone's interested:

The "pill cozies" don't have pics yet.

What do you think a guy would think if you're about to have sex and you pull out that condom cozy, and very carefully unsnap it and pull one out? LOL

When I worked as a pharmacy technician, this is what we told all of our patients.

I am sorry, but the condom cozy that says "life is just a bowl of cherries" is really cracking me up. (sorry excuse to use this emoticon.

And I'm such the nerd I did buy the pack for my pills - shopchicago found it online & it was only $8 shipped.
