I'm still so annoyed. Should I complain?

I was at this beauty supply store in my area. I went there specifically because I really want one of those hair dryers with a round brush built in. When I went on vacation, my friend had one she let me use and my hair never looked better. I've been looking for weeks for one like it but they never seem to be the right thickness or have the right length bristles.

So, I'm in this store and I see something that might be the perfect brush/hair dryer, but it is in a box that doesn't have any windows and there are no samples out. There was just a picture of it on the box. I asked the SA to see one and he said that I couldn't. He said he would show me curling irons that are the same thickness, but I told him I really need to see how long and durable the bristles were, too, because I have thick hair and a lot of the ones I've looked at wouldn't be able to handle my hair. He said he can't show me the actual product because it's really hard to take in and out of the box. I asked him how I was supposed to know if it was right for me without seeing it. It's not like I can return it. What if I opened it after buying it and found out immediately it was all wrong? He just said no again. I told him that if I couldn't see it, I couldn't buy it. He just said okay and I left.

Am I crazy to be mad about this? Now I am going to have to go someplace 40 minutes away because it is hard for him to open the box. I would think most people need to see what a hair dryer looks like before buying it. If they just had one sample out, they would probably make more money because more people would be willing to buy it after seeing it.

I would complain (but I also tend to do that in these types of situations).  Sounds like the guy was just being lazy.  I'd write a letter and address it to the store manager and cc it to the regional director (Is the store a chain?  If so, you could probably get this info on their website).  I just hate the idea of people being able to get away with being difficult and unfair, especially in response to such a reasonable request from a customer.

He wouldn't let me open it either. That d*ckhead just didn't want it opened. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have asked him in the first place. I should have just assumed I could open it and looks since there were none out.

Eurodaisy, it isn't a chain. There is just one other location. I'm a little afraid to complain in case he is an owner himself since it is such a small operation.

Naw dont be afraid to complain- you have every right to look at it even if that means more work for him and putting it back in the box. He should have been happy to show you who knows it could have been the one for you and he would have made a sell.

I'd definitely complain.  I highly doubt that's the store policy and I really think you just got a lazy SA who didn't want to have to put the thing back in the box.  The manager should be aware of it and will probably do something to correct the situation for you.

WHAT????  That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!!   What is wrong with opening a damn box?!!  His correct answer should have been, "no problem, let me open it for you."  You think the guy would like to make some money, hopefully he has gained some customer service experience with this= no open, no sell!
