Hurt my foot....
Permalink Closed

I seem to be prone to injuring myself while, erm, drunk, so of course, last night I went a little overboard and managed to twist my foot on some stairs. Now it's a teensy bit swollen and hurts to walk. I've already iced it and have propped up on some pillow. Is there anything else I should be doing for it? How many times a day should I ice it and for how long?

Darn me for having that 2nd drink last night....

You're doing things right.  Just remember RICE--rest, ice, compression, elevation.  An Advil probably won't hurt either.

I hate drunken injuries--they're the worst!

According to my first aide book:

Ice the area at least 3 times a day.  For the first 72 hours, ice for 10 minutes once an hour.  After that a good pattern is twice for 15-20 minutes three times a day.

Whenever my kids twist or sprain an ankle we find it easiest to ice in a bucket.  Dang cold but it get their whole ankle.  Put water in the bucket and gradually add ice so your foot acclimates to the temp.

OUCH.

All I can is RICE (like said) and I feel for you, been there, done that and still do!

I agree with everyone on what to do for your foot.

I feel for you I have been there. Once when I was drunk I was trying to get into my friends truck and I slipped off the seat and fell on my ass out of the truck. (hangs head in shame)

Thanks guys

Saturday and Sunday I iced it a few times.  Yesterday it didn't hurt anymore, but the swollen area seemed to have spread and took on a slight reddish tone.  Today, it's not red anymore, still doesn't hurt anymore either, but it's still slightly swollen.

I'm confused as to how it doesn't hurt but is still swollen......I won't be able to ice it at work, but I'll probably do it again when I get home.  I'm also taking an Ibuprofren every 4 hours to help with the inflammation.

What's really bad is that a couple of months ago, I managed to mess up my back by falling down some stairs at the bar, again because I overdid it.....This is exactly why I don't wear heels when I go out either
