protecting leather and suede on bags and shoes

i recently bought some suede peep toes and a new Lauren merkin bag.  should i spray something on them (i.e. like scothguard or something) to protect the leather?  does anyone here do that and if so, what do you use?  tia!

Hey alb, I use the Leather & Suede protector you'd get from a leather store.  I have a bottle I bought at Wilson's leather and one from somewhere else, probably Target or something.  But I use it on my shoes and bags all the time and it works great!  HTH!

I second shopchicago33. I use a spray-on protector (water-repellant, I think) that I've bought at any number of places over the years. Currently I'm using one meant to protect camping tents.

I spray shoes and bags before I ever use them, and then will re-spray from time to time, like when I'm cleaning shoes/bags. I've never had any problems when using this kind of stuff.
