bubble skirts - spend or save?
Permalink Closed

do we have a guestimate on the longevity of bubble skirts? i don't normally buy trendy things, but i need a new white skirt and i was thinking i'd go with a bubble style. i figured that those knit guachos would be over in 5 minutes, so the fact that they are still around makes me wonder if the knit bubble skirts will also have some staying power and i could wear this for a few springs to come without looking like a fashion victim.

if we think they may have some longevity as a trend, i'd have no problem dropped $128 on this beauty by bcbg -

BCBG Max Azria Bubble Skirt

however, if we predict this will be a one-season trend, i think i'll get one of these significantly cheaper ones instead ($24 and $29 from dillards.com) - i don't love them as much, particularly that weird top with the fraying, but i'll be wearing longer tops with it anyway, so that will cover that up.

if i go with the dillards one, should i go for the mini or the longer length?

i know all of my posts are always so long-winded - sorry!

i'm looking for a cheapie.  the guy i bought my gauchos from on ebay said he would have some soon.  his name is ric111mar.  i feel like the skirt will be wearable this summer, and then it's days will be over.

but i vote for the dillards skirt.

I too think the bubble skirt is a quick-passing trend. Also, with a white skirt there is limited wearability too, on account of the color and material (white cotton). So, my vote is to go for the cheap one.

Although, just to play devil's advocate, if you bought the more expensive one, next summer if the bubble trend isn't back, you could have the hem changed to a regular one, so in that respect there may be some life to the more expensive one.

Also, consider what else you'd like to get for the summer. If you buy the Dillard's (and I vote for the "mini" which doesn't look that short), then you'll have an extra $100 to spend on something else.

I'd save. I saw some really cute ones on the anthro sale rack for like $20. Or, if you sew they aren't hard to make. I've made a few and they cost $10-$15 each depending on what kind of fabric/zipper I use.

I vote for the lshorter dillards skirt.  I feel like the trend will be over pretty soon and by next spring will probably look dated.  Knit gauchos look kinda dated to me right now.

i got a cute one at zara for $25 a few months ago. i would check there. i feel like they would probably have something very simliar to the bcbg one.

also i think starstuff has a good point. you can always chop the hem on the bcbg one next summer and just have a full white skirt.

I say get the dillards one.  The bcbg one looks a little less trendy to me which is good in the long run.  However, I think the Dillards one is super cute for a bubble skirt and I think it would serve the purpose very well.

I think they look pretty similar, so I would go for the cheaper longer one. I think it would fit your style more for the longer one, the shorter one looks a little teeny bopper to me. Really cute idea to get one in white though!

I have to agree with the others - I feel like this is more fad- than trend-based, and think it will be done by fall. I'd go for the cheapie skirt.

honey - i was just in zara the other day looking for some pants and i didn't see the white skirt there. :(

I agree, I'd SAVE, I saw a cute one at Rainbow for maybe $15.00, I'd probably only get one or two, not going crazy w/it.
