has anyone seen anything cute/unique in the stores?
Permalink Closed

Hi girls,

I am selling a lot of my old clothes and starting over so I have less items but more quality.  I just don't have the space for my wardrobe now.  I want to WANT to wear anything in my closet at any given moment- not have a few things i love wearing and always reach for, but an army of things that I only wear if I have to.   I want to spend about $1000 for spring/summer and this is what I need:

1)two cute pairs of sandals- both flat- one more casual.  Probably a soft brown leather and has to be comfortable.

2) cute tops- I want some cheaper ones for hot summer days, and maybe a couple nicer ones.  some tanks, some tees, some knits, some wovens.

3) another pair of jeans, maybe some cut off shorts too

4) a cute summer dress, would prefer something that I can machine or hand wash, so probably cotton, and comfy

5) a sexy top.  I need one- i was thinking a basic black halter with thick halter straps- kind of marilyn monroe- i had one but its material was bad and pilled, plus its too short.

Where should I go for cheap basics other than the obvious places (old navy, target, etc)?  My style is hard to explain, to say the least.  I like things with southwestern/native american influences/ london/parisian style/ american surfergirl style- things that aren't too fussy or mainstream looking, but body skimming and nice.  I'm not really a trendy girl.  I prefer graphic patterns to small girly ones.  I like earthier (brown, cream, white, beige) or strange colors (chartreuse for example) over colors like pink, aqua blue, etc.

Here is one thing I found that i really like:

free people, $84

I hope someone replies- I wouldn't even know where to begin if I read this post!!

I'll try to help in the sandal department.

I think some of the girls here like Bernardo sandals and find them comfortable. I have never owned any though. Here are a few... let me know if this is the right direction.

These are Naturalizer... the studs might be too much.

Do you have a pair of Jack Rogers?  If you don't, you must get a pair.  They are so comfortable, and it sounds like they would fit the southwestern aspect of you style.

thanks girls- i like those urban ones a lot but i think they might not have enough support- i have to walk a few miles a day.  I will try the bernardo and jack rogers- like those styles but sometimes thongs look funny because of my toes, so i prefer slides because they are more flattering.  That is the right direction though!

Cheap basics, I always do Gap, but that's an obvious place.

American Apparel runs higher than gap, but their products are generally good

Michael Stars are really great basics too

Try outlets- I stock up on basics at the Banana outlet.

As for trully unique, new items, I am still on the hunt...

Hmmm...I'll have to think about this.  I love a good challenge.  I'll see if I can help when I get home from work.

If I understand your style, it's kind of a sexy, earthy, casual, unique kind of style right?  I imagine from what you've posted before that the stuff you like best is really soft leathers and lots of soft natural fabrics.  It sounds kinda like Andrea Linette from Lucky, but maybe less rocker-ish.  Am I kind of on the right track?

I was going to suggest letrainbleu also. They have a 30% off code, SPRING that expires on the 13th.
There's also a lot of new stuff out at Active Endeavors. I love the Sonia Rykiel stuff-
pricey at $362 $135 and machine washable too!
$82
I love this dress but alas it's $400!

thanks girls, keep them coming!  I'm so glad you reminded me of letrainbleu!  I love:

stunning, but looks so easy to rip.

i think activeendeavors has this in plain linen- i might get that instead of the blue.  I'll probably post when i get all confused.

this which anthro has and i might get from there- i'm so happy that its "slightly nubby rayon".  I didn't want a smooth hand for this shirt- it would have been too target- cute, but not $98 cute.

love this but its $368...Nicolas K is at the showroom so I can order something similar to this next season for wholesale- around $150.
