Need help with project- Paris fashion week!
Permalink Closed

Hi ladies! As some of you know, I'm a PhD student. I'm taking a class in research methods and one of our assignments is to put together a focus group. Basically, for an online focus group, I'd get a couple of people together to talk in a private chat room about a topic for about 45 minutes. I would love to have a couple of you (between 5-8) get together online and discuss some of the controversy surrounding the Paris Fashion Week images (women's faces being covered- see links below). Whatever your opinion on them- they're upsetting, they're no big deal, not sure, etc.- I'd love to have you participate if you have something to say! You don't have to have formulated a full opinion yet- first reactions to the photos are fine as well! Ideally, I'd like to hold it tomorrow afternoon around 1 pm (mountain time)/3 pm (eastern time). Just as here, you could remain totally anonymous in the chat. I would need your name and some demographic info (like age, location, etc.), but I promise to keep that private! Ideally, I'd like all the participants to be from here because I think it would make it more comfortable. I would moderate and there might be one other person- a silent observer from my class. Post here or pm me if you have any questions or would like to participate. Even if you can't make the above time, let me know if you'd like to participate and what times on Thursday or Friday you would be available. I know it's a bit of a time commitment and I wish they gave us a research budget to offer compensation- but I do think it would be a fun discussion! Thanks so much everyone! Here's links to some of the photos and articles from NY Times on the topic:

Nobody? Does anybody know any other women who are into fashion and would have 45 minutes at any point over the next couple of days? If you (or someone you know) would be willing, just let me know and we'll try to find a time that works for everyone!

I would, but there's no way I could do it at work.  I'll make this sticky so more people see it. maybe I should move it to shopping/fashion?

Thanks, detroit- you're the best! It might get more traffic in shopping/fashion, so if you wouldn't mind moving it, that would rock! Thanks again!

Honey, thanks so much! I would like to do it tomorrow or Friday ideally, so if I can get a couple more people, then we'll work on finding a time that works for everyone! Thanks again!

Girls, thanks so much for the responses! I'd ideally like to have about 6 people, so I may have to put it off until I get enough people. When/if I get enough people, we'll find a time that works for you ladies. Thanks again for the responses- that's why I love this forum so much- everyone is so willing to help!

WOW! You girls are the best. Before we can go ahead with the focus group, I need to send you all a legal e-mail where you agree to participate and are 18 or over. If you could each pm me your e-mail address, I will send out the e-mail right away. It might be hard to still get everything together for today, but I'd be happy to find another time that works for everyone (we can push it to Monday later afternoon, early evening) or even push it to next Friday afternoon if Friday afternoon seems to be a time that works for everyone (our prof has loosened the time constraints a bit).

Relrel, just reading those articles is fine- no outside work needed! I just want to make sure everyone has seen some of the images. And I'm doing my PhD work in Media Studies! What are you studying?
