thank you for starting this thread, lindsayp b/c i think that i should 'defend' my lurking as well.. i've been on lucky forum, then fashionhag, and honestly, i think a lot of the reason why i 'lurk' is b/c i'm overwhelmed by the amount of posts, so i find myself reading and reading and an hour has gone by and it's then time to go back to work. :)

I love this! thanks newme for sharing your story & opening our eyes to the "lurker" mentality. I think as regular posters we forget that we were all new once & not that willing to share.

I am a "lurker" although I did go to the NYC ST get-together. I do post every once in a while when I have something to say. I guess my style is quirky and many times I feel like it doesn't fit into the mainstream of everyone's opinions, so I refrain from commenting.

i agree with zeitgeist4, i lurked for awhile after leaving lucky because everyone here seemed so close. i didn't want to butt in either and i really wanted to instantly be a regular that everyone knew. i still don't post as much as i'd like but i'm becoming more regular less lurker.

I completely agree with Zeitgeist. I often "lurk" around the forum without posting. I feel like sometimes the "regular" posters are so close that I am intruding on their space. I really enjoy reading the forum, and I try to chime in whenever I have advice or strong opinions.

However, a lot of the time I check out the forum as a "break" from doing my work, so I can only read for short amounts of time. Thus, sometimes posting is out of the question. I hate to be categorized as a "lurker" though, and I will try to be more of an avid poster!

As for "lurkers" who have never posted, I don't really see a problem with them. I do think that we should all be very careful how much personal information we give out over this forum.

I want quirky style, though! sometimes I feel alone with my offbeat choices, and don't share them on the forum because I'm the only one who likes the unusual-ness of what I've chosen. I also feel that sometimes we fall into a vanilla rut sometimes, i.e. "the uniform"

I totally agree w/ detroit. The quirky fashions are my favorite, and I'm always looking for new quirky ideas.

aw! i'm a lurker too... i guess i'm just more of a reader than a poster..but i love reading what you ladies have to say on each and every topic. also, sometimes i forget to close the screen and stay on FH for hours when i go to class, bed, etc.. i'm really not that creepy i swear!

and also, it makes me feel good to see my questions, etc. get just as many responses as those of the regulars.. so thank you!

I often wonder if people think of me as a lurker (that was a rhetorical statement). Someone (maybe monica?) said that they read and read because there are so many posts, and it's hard to respond to everything.

I'm just the type of person that doesn't say much unless I think it's a worthy contribution. I keep up with everyones posts and usually don't have enough of an opinion or advice to make a post.

I started reading Lucky back in my sophomore year of high school....oh my gosh. That was like, 5 years ago! And have been on the boards since then. I guess I always considered myself so young that I didn't have the experience you all had and thus, not much say to contribute.

I've learned so much about style and picking the right pieces from these boards and thank you all.

I agree with honey in that I don't think that anyone who posted in this thread and identified themselves as a lurker really could be considered a lurker. I recognize all of your names (as I'm sure other 'regular' posters do as well). By those standards, I could, at this point, be considered a lurker since I don't post nearly as often as I used to. But this is simply due to my crazy job and schedule. I do log on everyday and read thru things, but I no longer have time to post outfits in the shopping and fashion section as I did before. And by no means do I think this is lurking. It's just being busy!

As for Newme, welcome!! I love your story!! I hope that you start to feel more comfortable and start posting more.

No, that's not who I meant at all. Lurking to me means someone who always reads but has never posted.

And to clarify, I didn't mean that it's necessarily bad to lurk, and I didn't mean "shame on the lurkers." It's just that if they don't post, we know very little about them, and I guess you never know who's out there. But of course, I guess you never really "know" someone online. I could be the shoe-fetish guy for all you guys know.

I also don't consider anyone in this post lurkers. As everyone else has stated, all your screen names are familiar to me which tells me that you at least participate in the forums. However, I do feel a bit uncomfortable knowing that there are people registered on here who do not contribute at all. Because of this, I try not to post anything too personal or anything detailed about my life. You just never know who will read them.
