I love the look, but not sure if I have the right shape to wear them. And I definitely don't want to buy if they're going to look horrid on me. I also know that I'd be wearing them with tunic length tops and probably looser, blousy-like shirts to draw attention away from the hips.

I think you can, but you may want to look for straight legs as opposed to peg-leg jeans. The straight legs are much more wearable. You might be able to put the peg-leg jeans on since your legs are definitely slim enough, but I think you'll have an unflattering silhouette from them.
I definitely think you could. But the best way to find out is to go start trying them on. I wouldn't order any online before you have seen the silhouette on you in person. At first, it was a shock for me, but after a few times I got used to the idea of them on me, and I am not tall or skinny.
I did a really cruddy edit of your photo of you wearing jeans, and I liked the skinny version better. I htink you should just try on many different styles and brands of skinny jeans, I'm sure you can find some that work for you!
