Did anyone else notice how freaking tiny Hillary Swank was?!??!?!  Her waist is so small!  I'm trying to find a picture of her because I was amazed.  I know she's in good shape and all but good heavens!  She looks good though--not skeletor like.

not good...not good at all.  people i normally expect so much from just looked eh.  yes, Naomi, i'm talking about you.

looking particularly bad, IMO, were JLo (why was she presenting anyway?), Jessica Alba (bobblehead doll effect...and terrible color dress on her), Michelle Williams (could have worked, but something was off), Charlize (heard her dress described as "worse than a project runway creation"), i could go on...but i'll stop.

loathe as i am to admit it, i think Jennifer Aniston looked the best, although she always makes the most booo-ring choices.  still, amidst the weirdness, she looked better.

Reese looked okay...but i tried on a sundress at Anthro last summer that was almost identical to that, only shorter...so i just didn't think her dress looked "fancy" enough for the event...or something.  nice hair though.

Has anyone seen Jennifer Lopez looking happy lately?????  She just always looks bored and sad to me.

Ever since she married Marc Antony it seems like she acts like she has a scarlett letter or something - Like she's scared of him / intimidated by him & she's just glad/ fortunate he married her. Does that make sense? Almost like an abused woman or something. Maybe it's just me though.

I think we saw at least three gowns with pockets.  Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I think Michelle Williams looked yucky. I have a really hard time liking her though because I hated her character on Dawson's Creek so much. That's all I can think about when I think of her. To me, she's not Michelle Williams, she's Jen and she bothers me.

I can't think of a single look I really loved, but I did like Samantha Harris, Amy Adams and Ziyi Zhang (or is it Zhang Ziyi? Is it just me or are people constantly switching her name around?)

I realize that most of the world disagrees, but I thought Michelle Williams looked terrible. I didn't like anything about the dress -- the big doily neckline, the weird gather, and the color was terrible. I also hated her lipstick, which would have been pretty with a simpler dress. The whole thing was garish, IMO. Her hair was very pretty.

I wasn't nuts about Felicity H's dress, but her hair and makeup was the best I've ever seen on her.

Reese looked very pretty, but it was sort of expected. She always seems to wear the poofy-skirt look. Her hair and makeup were fab, though.

Although I didn't like the dresses, I admire Naomi and Charlize for taking risks.  Unlike Jennifer Aniston, who always looks good but never great.

ETA: I also wanted to say that Keira Knightley's hair color is terrible. It's the same color my hair was when I tried to dye it light blonde by myself.

Also, I do think Reese's speech was rehearsed, but I thought it was also genuine. She was the favorite, and she is supposed to be a total Type A, so I am sure she came up with it beforehand. (I would too!)

I agree with everything you said.  And also, am I the only one who wishes Jen Aniston would fix her hair?!?  I mean not that it looks bad, and I like her and all, but for the oscars I expect something more than just straight w/middle part, you know?

id actually like to take jennifer aniston by the shoulders and shake her uncontrollably until she promises to do something interesting. yes, she is pretty, but dammit...you are putting me to sleep with your safe hair and safe dresses. just for once i would like to see her in a colorful dress with her hair up. is that really too much to ask for? i don't want another lbd with her hair straight and parted in the middle. even her regular day outfits are booooooring as well. yes, i get it, you are classical and elegant but put some color in your life. perhaps that is why brad pitt left her...god knows that goddess jolie is way more interesting.

Zhang is her last name or family name. Ziyi is her first name. So Ziyi Zhang is how we would say it in the states, but in China people always say the family name before the given name, thus some people know her as Zhang Ziyi.

This was probably my favorite dress.

And I did like the one Amy Adams had on, the trim was so fun! I like the color of Jada's dress, looked awesome on her.

Overall, most of the dresses were very unflattering and did not fit well. Nicole kidman's dress had a weird pooch in the lower stomach, that blue tulip dress did not look good on that body, michelle williams' dress did over-emphasize her broad shoulders. Maggie gylenhall's (sp?) dress made her look huge! It just seemed like most of the dresses were wearing the actresses and not the other way around.

Wait ... Don't tell me with your killer handbag collection you have not yet acquired such a bag?!?  You of all people should know how essential a fancy fanny pack is!  Can't you see?!  It's so perfect in all it's practical, beaded glory!

that's no fanny pack, that's a Mexican jock protector. ole'

I especially like the dingle berries on her capri's

I think the mexican carpet carpet protector would have looked lovely over this dress - it would further emphasize the groinal area...

Michelle Williams

Keira Knightly was probably my favorite simply because I thought her necklace was TOO DIE FOR amazing.  I also really liked the color of the dress on her.  I wasn't a big fan of her hair color or style.

Michelle Williams - Eh, when I first saw her I thought she looked awful, but the whole look is kind of growing on me.    I like the color of the dress, I just don't like the gathering around the hips.  I appreciate the fact that she took a chance, and her hair and makeup does look pretty.  I'd always rather see a risk go awry that something boring.  Comparing her to Jennifer Aniston, for example, Jennifer looks classy, but completely boring, IMO.

Reese - Always looks pretty, but I think she just looks better in a knee length dress.  I find a floor length gown overwhelming on her.  I thought Reese's acceptance speech was sweet and from the heart.  I hate the fumbling, bumbling crying and excitement tho.

I thought it was super cute when Jennifer Garner tripped then said, "Thanks, I do my own stunts"  It was such a great example of recouping from a mishap and making it work for you.

I agree with both of you. Her hair always looks a little too long, a little greasy and ragged/damaged on the ends.

eta: rocky, thank you for clearing that up. I wonder why the press always changes it up...you don't see that with other Chinese actors like Bai Ling or Michelle Yeoh (they are both Chinese, too, right?)

Nope, I love the Aniston Look.  It is a look she does often, which I think is a sign she's confident, has found her style, and doesn't give a shit about the hullaballo.  Love the hair loose and long (but not severely so, like Kidman, who looked awful IMO).  I just think Jen is a cool girl and looked the part - the breezy drape of her dress, the understated jewelry, the loose hair.  (And, ok, it's totally something I would wear.)  I think it would be weird if she showed up in something showboaty - her style is minimalist chic.  Too many other people looked like they were going to the prom/trying too hard.

I am also one of the Michelle-lovers.  I loved the dress, the soft hair, and the lipstick.  Her eyelashes were a mile long.

Jessica Alba's hair was gorgeous.  Dress unremarkable - people are all gaga, but it's not the dress, it's her figure.

Keira Knightley was gorg., too, but agree with HB about her hair color... sorta fried.

Reese did nothing for me.   I mean, she was pretty but the dress was just eh for me.  Not a bad dress, just boringly princessy-pretty.

Jada Pinkett looked less severe than usual, which is good.  She just looks so tightly wound all the time... it bothers me.  I think the ponytail and drape of the dress helped her look more soft, but the dress color is awful.  Hate electric blue.

Uma looked amazing - the only one carrying off the nude.  Naomi Watts I *wanted* to like, but the bodice was just so lumpy and unflattering and her tiny bod got all lost in there.  And it was weird how her dress was heavy on one side, and she had her hair to one side as well (and I wanted to fix it - looked like it had fallen out from what was intended).  She should have gone sleek on the 'do.

I think Salma's waist-cincher is showing through her dress.  And I haaaate the dress.  Ew.

Jennifer Garner's little recovery from her near-slip ("I do my own stunts!") was cute.  She's working those new-mom boobs, isn't she?

I actually think JLo looks better than usual and I like the color of her dress.  I love green.  It looks really bright in the photos but was more subdued on TV.  And her neutral makeup was nice.

Dolly is Dolly.  There is no point saying anything there - I say let her be her sassy little tacky Dolly self.  After all, she did say "It costs a lot of money to look this trashy!" Loooove Dolly - amazing performer and quite a talent.

I confess. I love everything about the look, except for the gathering at the crotch. I can't help thinking it looks like she's got a woodie everytime I see that pic.

You people and your dirty minds!  Hee... I honestly never would have noticed.  Now I can't helping looking at her crotch.

I LOVE this picture of Michelle Williams! I think she looks gorgeous, with a funky vintage that's not so literal that she looks like she is in costume. The groin gathers are the only sour note.

and I actually love this look on Uma--I think it works because she's got enough of a tan that her skin tone is visibly darker than the dress fabric, and because the cut of the dress is so incredibly flattering to her TDF figure...

and I loved the edgy off-black color and the matte/shiny fabric of Charlize's dress, but the cut was insane.

And Jada--really bad helmet head, plus her pecs scare the hell out of me. Her upper body and tough jaw seriously make her look like a pint-sized drag queen.
