Why the heck did this happen? I was working on my assignment that is due Monday. I tried opening another paper and when I went to open my flash drive some of my files converted to this? I am soo freakin mad cause I lost sooooo much work. I want to cry!!
Oh no. Calm down. Is there anyone you can call that knows a lot about computers? Did you back it up, have any of it in your email? Be careful what you do. Call tech support or a knowledgable (sp?) friend ASAP. I sooooo hope you can recover it. *crosses fingers*

ok - I'll ditto this - I don't want to be responsible for screwing up your files any more than they are!

I had like 3 files opened from my flash drive. I went back to open one more and then it showed up like that.
This has never happened before.. You know what's weird too. When I open the files to see my pics on my digital camera when I have it connected to the USB port there is a file with weird characters.
is the flash drive a memory stick? I can't imagine a system restore would hurt anything, you can just pick the most recent date to restore to (it may not be able to detect any system changes at all)

This might work: right click on the file and pick "open with" and then choose the program you created the file in.
Ditto. Or try right clicking the icon and renaming the file with a .doc extension. I don't think a system restore is going to help you since it's on your flash drive, unfortunately.
i actually sometimes get that that when i download something off of my school's blackboard and it goes into a temporary file. it's fine once i open it with word, or adobe, or whatever it is. but to be better safe than sorry...i wouldn't touch it until somebody can look at it for you.
