I hate exercising while I'm on my period. I totally feel crampy and bloated and gross. Having my period always makes me feel really low energy, I'm more tired than usual while I have it. Working out is the last thing I feel like doing. But my bf swears that if I exercise, I'll feel so much better because of the adrenaline or whatever.

What's a girl to do?

I usually take it a little easier than normal on the intensity of my workouts during the first few days of my period.  I too feel sluggish around that time, and have a hard time running then because I can feel everything jostling around in there.  Weird!

Stupid boys have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to this.  Cut yourself some slack and go a little easier if that's what your body is asking for.

I really like working out during my period, it usually makes my cramps disappear and I feel so much less bloated.  Sometimes it is a little hard to get started during my period, but once I am into my workout I know I will feel so much better.  Then again I am a total workout junkie...so I am a little biased.

I agree, I like to workout during my period.  I mean, its kind of weird to do crunches, but "supposedly" it helps.  I always feel better after I work out, so I like to continue this on days when I really need it!

You might want to try to pump yourself by having some caffeine or some magazines say just mentally "pumping" yourself up helps.

Ick. I hate working out when I'm on my period. I feel 10x my normal size and everything just aches. To be fair, I generally despise working out, so this might have something to do with it.

Not to change subject but your heading reminded me of something my un-saavy guy friend said recently. He was trying to be a d*ckhead and he was all, "what, is your aunt period visiting or something?" OMG. I cracked up. We were all canoeing and I think we're all exceedingly lucky there were no boats tipping over in the water. Dumb boys. Aunt period. Hee!

I was going to say the same thing. What the heck does a guy know, and what gives them the right to offer advice for this particular subject. As for me, I don't ever feel like working out during that time of the month. Plus all that jumping around just makes the boobs hurt more, and I don't need that. I'd rather take some medication and use a heating pad. I would take it easy, the first couple of day, and then maybe do something the last few days of the cycle.

Men... This reminds me of a guy my sister works with who SERIOUSLY thought that women only wear black pants or skirts when they're on their period.  He is in his thirties, and has gone around most of his adult life thinking he can tell when any woman is on her period.  What a jackass.

ETA:  Got so annoyed thinking about this guy that I forgot to answer the question.  I feel so disgusting the first 2-3 days of my period that the last thing I want to do is work out.  IF it will help with my cramps, though, I'll suffer through it.  Maybe next month I'll see.

I don't like working out, but during my period, I find that if I'm active, it helps with the cramps.  But it takes a lot to mentally prep myself to uncurl from the OMGcramps position on the couch and work out.    Usually I bribe myself with a giant mug of tea, which also helps with the cramps.
