I have no advice to give, but I am interested in hearing what others have to say. I am also going to start looking for a new job and I have no idea how the whole going-on-interviews-when-you-have-a-current-employer thing goes.

I figured you would say that SB. I guess I am so unused to looking for jobs that I'm not sure how to find the right fit and how long the process takes. I've just started updating my resume and looking for the right sort of recruiter.

So here are my questions:

1. How did you know you were ready to change? Was it just that you were miserable, or did you need a catalyst?

2. How did you start looking?

3. when you interviewed, what sorts of things did you look for in other jobs?

I just did this about three months ago.

1. How did you know you were ready to change? Was it just that you were miserable, or did you need a catalyst?

I realized that I was miserable and wasting time at my old job. I am normally a pretty hard working, ambitious individual who wants to succeed but I found that job draining and utterly demeaning so I became lazy. I would dread getting up in the morning and making the commute (it was 30 min. max...small by LA standards) to work. I would always tell BF that I needed to quit because the stress was too much considering the miserably low pay I was getting.

I think that the catalyst was going to our company retreat last October and seeing the type of people who rant he company and getting to know them was what turned me off. I saw how my superiors were acting and how my colleagues were behaving as well at that meeting. I found out that day what would be expected of me in order to assure my having a future there. To be honest, I didn't want to do what they asked.

I knew that the longer I stayed with the company, the more difficult it would become for me to leave with a clean break. I gave myself a deadline to leave.

Oh, and I knew to look elsewhere becayse I was here all day posting simultaneously while doing work.

2. How did you start looking?

I called on contacts that I had to see if there were any job openings they knew of in the field I wanted to get into. I also went online and applied for a few jobs with some companies as well.

I did all of this after hours. I bolted out the door by 7 PM to maximize my time.
