Favorite home decor item?
Permalink Closed

I am decorating a new apartment and I was just thinking about how I only have one or two items I know I would never give up. I am talking about the little things that just make your home special.

For instance, I love: a framed photo my brother took of a sign that says "Beauty," my little vases from Target's World Market section (last season) and my living room rug from IKEA.

What are your favorites (a clock, painting, throw pillow, vase, things like that)?

My fireplace. I bought one of those ones that you use the gas cans with and I love it!  Now I don't care if my next home has a fireplace or not, I can bring my own.

I also love my dining room table and leather chairs from PB.  One day SO and I just strolled in, instantly saw the set, and decided on the spot to buy it.  We never regretted it, and always get compliments on the set.  I like it because it's so casual, but can be easily made to look elegant.

Darn, it's not on their site anymore, or I would have showed you.

I like my crystal stuff.  It's so pretty and makes me feel more grown up and sophisticated!

Hmmm...this one has lots of answers for me...basically things that remind me of people I care about...

Photographs of my son

An antique cherry mini-dresser that was once my great great grandmother's

Those are the two main ones for me.  I have a lot of knick knack kinds of things that I will  never part with.

My favorite is a set of hanging wall frames like the ones below. It contains pictures from all the places we have traveled.

it would have to be my kooky dog knicknacks. They are all over my house, and they just make me happy. Examples:

Hey Halleybird! I collect bad dog art and it is my favorite thing about my apt. You know, bad paintings and paint-by-numbers of dogs I get at flea markets, yard sales and antique stores. So far, I only have a few, but my goal is to have a wall of them all above my desk! All in the original tacky frames, too. BTW, I'm not implying that your dog art is tacky!

But seriously, I love old family photos and cheap "art", like the vintage Chicago postcards that my roommate framed in cheap Ikea frames. I'll definitely be copying that when I get my own place.

thanks, but it is a little kitschy. But I like it.  Most of those things were gifts. People (esp. my mom) love to buy me crap like that.

erin -- those photos are awesome!  I especially love the cat one
