I have a friend who got "married" about 8 months BEFORE her real wedding.

She does hair (and didnt have insurance) and she got sick and really needed her husbands insuance. So they secretly eloped to the courthouse so that she could get treated for her illness under his policy.

They didn't tell anyone.. not even their parents.. Then 8 months later, they still had their HUGE beautiful wedding that they had been planning for years.

It was actually pretty romantic for them.. that no one knew their "little" secret.

Just wanted to share...

That's always what I've wanted to do if I ever got married. It just seems sooo romantic. I think you should do it Karina!

But can I just say that when I first started reading your post I thought you were going to say you were pregnant again! I got all nervous when I clicked on it. How weird is that?

I thought you were going to say you were pregnant again, as well.  I say go ahead and get married now and have the wedding later.  Sounds like so much fun!!

oh i wish!!! i want another little one.

anyway - they are taking out $244 a month for having him as a domestic partner, plus $99 a paycheck for our family insurance plan.  my HR benefits person told me i would bypass that fee once we are married. WTF?!

well, what district court are you in? it's the same place you go to to pay for a ticket.  call the district court and find out what you need to do.  I think I actually called our City Hall to ask - they directed me to contact the district court.  Things might be different where you live, so maybe you'll want to contact your City Hall first?  Once you have figured out who you need to go to for the marriage license, they will set up an appointment for you to come in together. I think you'll also need your birth certificates.

I think you have to have blood tests too in NJ but they will tell you that when you call. I think City Hall is the place to call first, that was were friends of our's went to for their civil ceremony.
