she is a merchandise planner for the same company i'm in, and she applied for an assistant buyer position within, and didn't get it. she also went to an interview for another retail corporation for another assistant buyer position and asked for 5k more ... the hours are 8:30-6 (while here she only works 8-5) at the other company, and the commute is a little further. they are offering her the position but do not want to give her more money.
the opportunity is good at the other company because she will get into buying, and eventually get into a more senior position within a year or two, but she also has the opportunity to do that here, but is afraid to keep asking her boss to sign the internal job interview sheet.
would you stay at your old company and stay comfortable and just keep applying for jobs here, or would you take the other offer?

Yep - it's never a good idea to take a job with known negatives balanced only by potential positives...

they gave her the offer, of the same salary she is making now, and more expensive benefits. she is going to try and negotiate more salary, but it looks like she isn't going to accept the offer.
could she tell her boss that she's been offered another job with a more competitive total compensation package but that she would like to stay at your current company and you know, what can they do for her?
her current boss has nothing to do with getting her into a buying position. there is nothing open internally right now, so she would have to wait for a new position to open up within the company. now the recruiter who sent her to this job interview is trying to negotiate more money for her, including a higher raise for next year.
