Has anyone had this?  What procedures do you have to get b4 doing it? Exam, Xrays, Cleaning, etc?

I want to get this done b4 my trip to Seattle and I found a dentist nearby just opened a new office is offering it for $150 originally $350.

I had a very very very bad experience with this, though I believe it was mostly the neglect of the dentist and his technicians.  Even so, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because I can definitely tell negative effects with my enamel which are going to cause me huge and expensive problems in the long run -

be careful

Can you elaborate on what side effects you had?  Did you have a lot of sensitivity?

BQ- i was going to get this done a year ago but didn't.  The reason I didn't is because I got a lot of unsolicited comments on how white my teeth are and i figured why am i spending $400 on something that apparently i already have?

all i know is that my dentist recommended doing it directly after a cleaning.  other than that- not so much!

Yes, I had a TON of sensitivity for the next week - i couldn't even talk b/c of the "zingers" - shooting pain throughout my teeth - it was terrible.  now my teeth are more sensitive than ever and some areas hurt just when i touch them (although i've had two exams since then and no cavities or other problems - at ANOTHER dentist, of course!)

fyi, wearing down your enamel will make it harder to keep your teeth white in the long run as well - i'm by no means an expert, but i really regret doing this, and so if i were you i'd do alot of research before i decided on it ....

fyi, i always got great results with the crest white strips - the other dentist i spoke with was like "well the zoom's not going to get you any whiter than that, why'd you do it?"

dammit.

Thanks Hermione, I have a lot of sensitivity on my front teeth and I apparently wore down a lot of my enamel when I was a kid, I apparently ate too much raw lemons  I would hate to have more sensitivity, especially so close to a business trip.  I think I'll try Crest Whitestrips and go from there.

Just wanted to add some info...I had Zoom whitening done about a year ago.  It's basically a concentrated method of applying the same bleach that is used in the crest strips or the stuff you get from your dentist.  So you get similar results but a lot faster.  It's nice if you need quick results but if you can wait go with strips or get custom molds made and buy bleach from your dentist (what I do now).  I did expereince some sensitivity afterward but nothing too bad.  The results were nice...my teeth were not blinding white but it did bleach them a few shades lighter and evened out the color.  Using the molds at home a few nights prolongs the results.

You could try stronger take-home bleach from your dentist first to see if you can tolerate it.  I think 12% peroxide is what I use which is pretty strong.  I'm not sure what the crest strips are.
