more kitchenaid stuff (re: color)
Permalink Closed

so as mentioned on kate's thread, i've finally saved up enough points from my cc for a beloved kitchenaid mixer. the only problem is that the color i want:

they don't have it in either store near me, and i am kind of balking at the 30$ shipping charge. they have yellow, which would look nice and white, too...but i like how the chococat oven mitts look in the background with their blue. (see pic below) i think i just need reassurement that it's not a big deal to spend an extra 30$ to be whiney and get the color i really want.

here is my kitchen! it's SO close to being finished (started in november!) i can feel it. (the backsplash tile is being done weds)

I would just get it!  it's the color you really want, and it's a big purchase, so if you don't get it you'll just be wishing it was the blue one every time you looked at it.

if you're still feeling bad about the extra $30, just try and cut corners a little bit for the next month on little luxuries and save some $ like that.  voila!  it's all even

girl, you're basically getting a free mixer. cough up the extra dough (pun intended ) and get the cute blue one!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your kitchen!  How cute!  You NEED that mixer.  That's the color my mom has and I love it.  It's just beautiful.  If you really love it, then you'll regret it if you get another color to save a few $$$.

Your kitchen is adorable!  I have black/white tile in my kitchen too and it is one of my favorite things about this house.

Get the mixer in the color you really want, don't settle.

BTW, while we're talking about your house remodels, which light fixture did you go with for the entry?  I'd love to see a pic.

You have a beautiful kitchen!

I think you should get the mixer in blue. I agree with FP that you shouldn't settle.

ok i ordered the blue! yay!

fp - i got the girlier chandelier. i am super glad, too, because it was almost too big for our hall (height wise). we are still getting renovations done until the end of this week, but after that i will take some pics. it's some pretty vast improvements!

I really like the blue mixer.  Glad to hear you ordered it.

By the way, your kitchen is ADORABLE!  It looks very much like *you.*  I love hearing about house projects--what all have you done to kitchen?

Cool, can't wait to see pics, I really like the style of your house (from what I've seen so far) and your decorating style.

ncshopper - the whole kitchen was gutted. it was not my style at all, and not in the greatest shape. i can't find a before picture saved on this computer, but here is a "during" picture.

the original kitchen had blue walls and these hens wallpapered in a border saying "life's a bowl of cherries." i like kitch, but i don't think so. we also just got all new windows. we knew when we bought this house, these were things we needed to do..it's just taking awhile to get everything done...but i really love this house and hope to stay here for a long time.

next up (probably next year -- this has been enough of a project both money and time-wise) is our bedroom. as you can see from my threadstyles, our bedroom is pink and green...which could be cute if the walls weren't pepto. i want to strip the carpets and paint the hardwood white, and work with the stone wall behind the bed as my focus for decorating around.

LOL! That is hilarious. It reminds me of the people who owned my house before. We are still waiting to redo our kitchen, though. It isn't bad, but it totally does not fit with our style. We took down the blue gingham wallpaper and the flowery window coverings, but we're stuck with light oak cabinets, white ceramic countryish knobs, and white laminate countertops

Your kitchen looks AWESOME and I agree with the others about the blue mixer. Your countertops look really cool -- are they Corian?

halleybird - no, they are quartz.

corian is nice, but it scratches very easily..it's not hard to fix scratches/etc, but i'm a pretty low/no-maintenance kind of girl.

yeah, that's my worry, too. We are redoing our kitchen eventually and were figuring we'd just do granite. But the quartz looks so nice! I like how thin it is, as opposed to granite, which is a big ol' slab. The color is very nice, too!

I LOVE your kitchen. You did a great job designing it. I have been wanting the kitchenaid mixer too. I think it would be really cute in your new kitchen.

Wow.  Just wow.  That's awesome you did all that!  DH and I are dying to redo our kitchen someday.  We were just looking at Domino magazine and they have a whole spread about different countertops and backsplashes.  One of the countertops they have is this quartz stuff called Zodiaq.  Is that what you have?  If so, how do you like it so far?

oh ho ho...just to cut anyone off the path thinking i did any of the work..ha!

my m-i-l designed the kitchen, i just picked out the materials/colors (i have always wanted checkerboard, and loved the idea of a yellow kitchen). neither hubby or myself is handy..so everything was done by pros.

ncshopper: yeah the quartz we have is "zodiaq." i really like it! the only thing is, they recommended to me i not cut directly on it..which i *think* you can do with granite. this does not need resealed ever, though, which is something i love. (granite needs resealed i think every 9 mos or so)

also, i saw the domino pages on countertops/backsplashes. it was really nice. i love almost everything in that mag though. i also really loved (i think this was in domino) that kitchen that they suggested removing the bottom doors and putting a curtain in front. so so so cute. if i didn't have a hookup on materials/etc i probably would have done something like that. kitchens are so expensive.

the installer is supposedly 100% finishing today, but he's the biggest flake ever. who knows if he is actually going to show up.
