I AM HAVING A CRISIS!!!!!...long
Permalink Closed

i just fired my wedding planner!!!!!

ok i will try to make this as short as possible, but.....  so i got engaged christmas day, picked a date two days after christmas, hired my wedding planner two weeks after new years and picked my location and put down a deposit two days after that.  i gave my wedding planner our budget and we sat down and talked about where we should spend the bulk of our money, where we could slim down the spending and what amount of money was feezable for what, i hop this is making sense and you can get the picture.  well, my dress was a total bargain.  i set aside $3000 to spend on the dress and accessories with alterations and such and since my dress came out to a total of $550.  so i left myself another $500 out of my dress budget for accessories and alterations.  so i took the other $2000 and put it aside for "just in case money" that i could keep hopefully for our honey moon spending.  i didn't tell my planner about it just because she would try to spend it if she knew about it.  well i am glad that i put it aside because my planner went over our budget again and saw that we were going a bit over our budget with our location and instead of going over options to get us back in range, she took it upon herself to cancel our location!!!!!  it is the most beautiful place i have ever seen and of course the place had 3 other couples on the waiting list for our date and now it is gone.  someone went down there 2 hours ago and put a deposit on it.  i don't know what to do.  i don't want another location and i need a new wedding planner.  i am too buisy to do this all on my own.  with the money i saved on my dress, we would have been fine and we could have cut down on other things.  AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

on the up side though, i found my shoes and veil.  woo hoo.

WHAT THE FUCK!?!

I would call up your location PRONTO and inform them that your so called 'wedding planner' had NO SUCH AUTHORIZATION to cancel ANYTHING.  Talk to whomever you need to talk to to either get your date back (if that's not physically possible, depending on how far out it is you might be able to get another date that would work for you).

Completely UNACCEPTABLE.  Post a baaaaaaad review of your former wedding planner on the Knot so others don't use her, report her to the BBB, etc.  Did you sign a contract with either the wedding planner or the location?  If you signed for the location, IMO you might be able to get it back on that note, and I'd review the contract with the wedding planner to see if you have any options for legal recourse.

I'm sooo sorry.  Being screwed over, especially by those involved in the wedding industry, sucks bigtime.

we had the location on a tentative hold.  they don't let you put a deposit eight months before the event and then if you have a tentative hold they give you 30 days to put your money down or cancel.  so on march second we were going to put our money down.   they had other people on a waiting list for the same day so if we decided not to use the facility or if we didn't bring the money in in time, they got the date.  so when she canceled someone else got bumped up and now i go on the bottom of the waiting list.  there is only 3 others on the list, but, it is enough to make sure i don't get the date.  they put me on the waiting list for the weekend before and the weekend after and the day after my date.  so now i can only wait.  and since we didn't put any money down or sign a contract yet, she was absolutely able to cancel us because the woman at the inn knew she was our planner.

I just don't see how anyone other than yourself can cancel though....Honestly I think it is crappy that the place doesn't understand that you still wanted it and that it was your planner that didn't. So maybe this is a blessing in disguise....we had many of those before we found the perfect location. Took us 4 mos and this was traveling all over from Florida, to the GA coast to SC....but it is perfect!

ok, so i went to the inn last night  and met with the wedding coordinator(sp?) and the people who took my date.  i explained to them what happened with my planner and they felt so bad for me they offered me my date back and they are going to take another date.  i payed for their hotel stay and for champagne and roses and room service for the two of them for when they get married.  so there goes $1000 of my just in case money.  but i got my date back.  i have wanted to get married in this inn since i was 6 years old.  we had a dance recital there when i was 6 and it is so beautiful.  my fiance proposed to me there.  i am so happy i got my date back.  and i have decided to go ahead and do the rest of the wedding without a planner.  my sister just quit her job a couple of weeks ago and is going back to school part time so i am just going to pay her and she will help me with all of the wedding stuff.

I cannot believe a wedding planner did that to you without your notice.  Completely unacceptable!!!

That is awesome you got the date back.  That was a really nice gesture of you for the couple.

Wow!  Sooo glad you got your date back - sucks you had to shell out an additional $1,000 to do it, though.  You should create an invoice and send it to your former wedding planner !

Wow. I'm an event planner (no weddings though) and your wedding planner sounds really unprofessional. To cancel your date without even checking with you...I can't even imagine anyone being so stupid to do this!

Did she even have a response when you fired her?

In any case, you need to be super careful when hiring a wedding planner. It seems like anyone who's gotten married/been to a wedding thinks that they suddenly have the experience to plan someone else's, when clearly it's not that easy. Make sure you get references from other couples, interview several planners that you like (it's important to find one that shares your vision- a good planner should never impose her taste or opinions, but make many options available to you), and of course, make sure whoever you hire has some experience...it may be tempting to hire a newbie who's enthusiastic and charges less, but trust me, you'll need the experience when you're freaking out because the cake/limo driver/florist hasn't arrived and you need someone to get things on track without freaking out more than the bride!

Good luck and glad you got your venue back!
