Budget Help!!
Permalink Closed

Ladies, for the first time ever hubby and I are goign to get on a serious budget!! (gasp!)

The problem is we don't know how or where to start? We are having a "family" meeting tonight to go over all our finances, bills, etc and goals for this year.

I am currently the one who handles everything. I guess my role is the CFO of the company. Lately I have felt a lot of pressure because I have noticed our savings just slipping away and I cant believe I "let" that happen. I dont want to share all the responsiblity so we finally talked about each one of us having our budget for our personal things.

Does anybody have a spreadsheet they could send me? I would like to get some guidance and compare a few different sheets so that I can find the one that works best for us.
Any tips, info, formulas or spreadsheets that you can all share with me would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I'd totally send you mine but it's at work and I'm at home today. But I'm not sure mine would be much help since I'm single and am have no technique for which to save money!

Good luck!

The only thing that has worked for me is maintaining a few accounts.  I have the bulk of my money go into my ING account so that it's not readily accesible for sudden-purchases.  Then I have my brick and mortar bank checking into which I only put enough to cover my regular bills (rent, utilities, phone...automatic debits).  Then I have a third account, also checking, into which I put a set amount for expenditures...that's my shopping, or ice cream with my son, or pizza on a Friday night account.

At some point I'd like to put some money in a Roth IRA and also purchase a few savings bonds for my son....maybe when I get my tax refund.

And I plan on opening one more account...a checking with interest for my medical emergency fund.  I'd like to at least have $1000 in there by the summer.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Oh, one other idea...check out lowermybills.com to see if you are paying more than you need to be for any of your services.
