i'm no math geek, but i AM an algebra-lover:

so first add 3 to both sides, so (x-2)(x-2) = 3

then take the square root so x-2 = sq root of 3 (no idea how to make that symbol on here)

then add 2 to both sides, so x= sr of 3 +2

am i right? lol it's been a loooong time since algebra

its + or - because as long either will give you a positive number when factored out. ie. if you substitue -2 for x, you will get the same answer as if you substitute + becasue the multiplacation of two negatives would be positive... hopefully that makes a *little* sense. It's kind of hard to explain.

ok here we go:

(x-2)(x-2)-3=0

add 3 to both sides

(x-2)(x-2)=3

take the square root of both sides:

x-2=+/-sqt.3

add 2 to both sides

x=2+/2sqt.3
