So, winter never came (a weather rant)
Permalink Closed

As I was sitting in my car sweating today (it was 80), I realized that my city only got one week of temperatures below 70 this winter.  I saw my doctor last week, and she said that she's seen 10x the amount of sinus infections this year, because nothing died off -- it never got cold enough. I am sure that those temps sound great to people in cold climates, but it's not great at all here.

This is also supposed to be our rainy season. In an average year, we should get about 4-5 inches of rain between November and February. This year, we have had NONE. We're a week past our all-time dry spell, and the forecasters are saying the weather will be dry through APRIL (which is when the dry season starts). The last time we had any rain was mid-October.

I am really scared, because this means we will have really horrible wildfires this summer. My mom lives near a wilderness preserve, which are exactly the types of places that catch on fire. Ugh. Anyone in the Northwest want to send us some rain?

Yeah I heard about the drought in that area. I am sorry to hear it, I know how bad that is. On the weather front, I feel your pain, I live in Fl where we normally get some cool weather 60's and such. Not this year, it has been really warm. I haven't even been able to wear any of my "winter" clothes.

We've had a crazy warm winter in Maine. Like 30s-50s. I remember temperatures in the 10s and lower being completely normal last year. My did say they've been having TONS of rain in Seattle recently.

We have had the mildest winter in as long as I can remember. Usually in January-February we get a few weeks of -15 to -20 F but this year it had been about 25-30 F all month.

Its bad b/c we might have a really cold summer.

We didn't really have a winter either, not as bad as you though HB.

I think the coldest it ever got this winter was a high of 50-55 degrees. There was maybe one or two nights the low got down to 33 degrees. Usually we have a 30-32 degree night here and there. At least we have had above average rain.

This week it's supposed to be in the 70's. Tomorrow I am giving myself a pedicure so I can wear all my new sandals.

It's been a warm winter for us in NC too.  It's been in the 60s and 70s for the past few weeks.  As a result, a lot of flowers are blooming right now, the trees all have buds on them and my daffodill bulbs are already popping up.  I think our spring is going to be really weird because we're supposed to get cold weather next week, which will probably kill the daffodills and tree buds.    Sad, cuz spring is one of my favorite times of year here.

You can have some of our water!  I have never seen so much rain in my life!  It had rained over 30 days straight from Christmas.  Yesterday we got lots of water too.  It's been a much warmer winter too.  I'm glad I didn't buy snow boots, I thought this year would be the year for lots of snow!  It would have been if it was colder.

Thanks for letting me vent, guys! I think I am just annoyed because I have a terrible sinus infection, probably caused by my allergies and this lack of a winter. Also, I really hate how hot it gets at work -- my classroom has huge windows (and no blinds) and it gets SO hot in the afternoon. Plus, the heater is still running.

I'm really glad this isn't caused by global warming or anything and especially that global warming isn't real! Cause I'm going to continue driving my H2 to my mailbox anyway!

I know what you mean, Halleybird - I just spent 3 days in Tucson and 3 more in Phoenix. You guys have gone like 115 days without rain! And it was really warm (which was nice for us - we got back to Atlanta last night to 40-degree weather and rain) but not so good for you. :(

The year we moved (2002), my parents had to evacuate their house (in Prescott) because of the fires. Fortunately the fire changed paths and they got to go back home with everything intact, but I'm worried for them again this summer. I wish I could send you some of the rain we've been having. I'm sick of it and I know Arizona could certainly use it. I'm hopefully that you'll get some water, at least, when all that Colorado snow melts...

Oh, I am so sorry about your parents' house! Prescott is so beautiful. Unfortunately, my favorite part of AZ is on fire right now (Payson).
