Filing taxes online myself
Permalink Closed

I want to file my taxes online myself.  I tried using H&R Block's program, but it won't let me enter my student loan interest and the amount I paid for tuition (out of pocket) this year.  Does anyone know how I can file my taxes online and include these 2 items?  I just feel like $200 is too much for me to spend on having someone do my taxes.  It just seems so easy.

I've never done it online with them but is there an option at the beginning for the type of form to fill out?  like 1040EZ vs. 1040 vs 1040A?  If there is an option don't use the 1040EZ because it won't let you do deductions like that.

Have you gone all the way through the program yet?  I use the H&R block program (TaxCut) last night, and one of the last things it asked me about was education expenses.

we use TurboTax...have you tried that? I think it costs $30 or something.

I file online every year for free.  Just go to www.irs.gov and click on Free File.  You just pick a service and go from there.  The first time I did it this way, I still had a student loan, and they let me fill that in.  Good luck!

Thanks!  I purchased TaxCut.  Now I'm stuck because I can't get my printer to work to send in a printed copy and I can't find last year's return to enter the information I need to sign it electronically.  I'm a mess!  Maybe I should have just left it to the professionals.

Woo hoo!  I'm getting $1100 back!  I just have to wait to receive a copy of last year's tax stuff so I can send it in.
