I have an interview on Tuesday and am not sure what to wear. I don't have a suit that fits me right now and would rather not have to buy something new. I havea dress similar to this one in grey wool. Do you think that with a black cardigan, black hose, and black pumps this would be OK? The interview is at a very well known national non-profit if that makes a difference.
Normally I would say that a dress wouldn't work, however, for a non-profit it will be okay. I work at a non-profit and we usually expect that candidates will look nice, but not too business-y. Typically, people who work at non profits don't need suits, and can't afford nice ones anyway, so we don't expect that candidates would have one.
I would add one interesting, but not too over the top, piece of jewelry.
I'm curious who you are interviewing with. You can PM me or just ignore me if you don't want to jinx it.
I like the dress a lot. Perfect for an interview. I think a nice chunky necklace would add some visual interest without being distracting.
I'm also curious who you're interviewing with. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you cuz I know how much you're hating your current work situation right now.
I hate disagreeing with such a concensus, but... No. I dont' think that a dress and cardigan is formal enough for a first interview. I just think it's better to err on the side of caution since you don't know who you'll be interviewing with. And you're young, so if they're older you might already have a credibility problem. If you have a jacket to go over the dresss, though, I think that would be fine.

it's for an assistant level position. do you think that age/credibility still makes a differance? The only jacket I have is huge on me (I lost 30 pounds since the last time I needed to wear a suit).
I'll try to take a pic of the outfit tonight so that you have a better visual. I think the dress is a little more professional than the one I posted.
eta: I don't want to sound like I'm arguing or anything. I really want this job and will go out and buy something if you really think it's necessary, but I'm kind of broke at the moment (just bought baseball tickets and the next paycheck isn't until next week).
