no one likely cares about her but I just thought this was interesting

In this week's issue: it is revealed that former Full House cutie Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) is a recovering crystal meth addict, a serious issue plaguing America (not JUST the gay community).

Thankfully, Sweetin is out of rehab now and reportedly clean. However, crystal nearly destroyed her life, ruining her marriage and career.

With the help of some of her Full House castmates, Jodie had the courage to do what's right and get help. Life is simple, if you are in trouble, you need to get help. That's the simple life!

Sweetin is currently picking up the pieces of her life, and Candace Cameron is really playing the role of big sister, helping her every step of the way.

And, her former co-star John Stamos tells PerezHilton.com through his rep, "I love and support Jodie and I’m here for her in any way that she needs me."

Good luck Jodie!

I saw this yesterday on the internet and was just about to post it.  Why does every child star get addicted to drugs?

It sounded like she's getting her life back together - how sad though, now she's getting divorced and she's so young.

oh wow of all the drugs to get hooked on I wouldn't have thought that would be the one she would be on.   She was so cute on that show.  I loved her.  I hope she is able to overcome this.

Geez.  I saw this earlier and I guess Bob Saget, MK and Ashley Olsen, and John Stamos all staged an intervention for her.  That's rough, man.

the idea of bob saget staging an intervention is hilarious. i met him once, and he was coked out of his mind. in this way that was so out of control it's not even funny.

I feel bad for her but I totally snorted when I read about the intervention, especially because I've heard about Saget's reputation. Did anyone see him on Huff last season when he played a crazy coked up actor?

honey, I love Bob Saget (is that weird?), how'd you meet him? What happened?

This is sad, but it sounds like she's getting her life back together. I read about this online the other day. Apparently she got married to a cop when she was 20 and he had no idea. Also, I love how close the Full House family still is.

maddie -- a club at my college does this thing every year where they honor a male & female celeb and have a whole shindig. my senior year, the male celeb was bob saget. when you're a senior you can attend the celebration even if you're not a member of the club. so my roomies and i went & met bob saget.

it's actually a crazy story b/c suppposedly you're not allowed to take pictures inside the club. anyway my friend was like, "oh there's the cute boy from starbucks." i'm going to take a pic, and security confiscated my camera. i had to raise hell to get it back.

I wonder why they wrote, "not JUST the gay community."  the crystal meth problem has been a big deal at least since the early 90's and affected in smaller communities throughout the midwest.  I also watched an HBO documentary about this a couple years ago and gays weren't even mentioned.  I was in Oklahoma in my teens when I witnessed this problem with a bunch of urban white kids who wore black heavy metal concert T shirts and got involved in the wrong crowds and who hung out at 24 hr billiard halls.  Not a place gays typically frequent, at least not then.  And interestingly, OK was the first state (I believe) to enforce strict laws about how much Sudafed you could buy at a time because it is the base for homemade crank.  I had some acquaintances who had some serious addictions and began criminal activity....at the time, the gay night club and drugs stuff was still under the radar.  So while this may be currently affecting the gay community, it's been affecting the whole country in lower middle class neighborhoods for over a decade.

TMI I know.  But my point is, it's naive to for anyone to ever think this is just a problem in the gay community.  If I were gay, I would be a little annoyed at the stereotype presented in ths article.  Unless Sweetin is gay herself?  Anyone know?  Poor thing, I still think of her as that kid on Full House because she was the same age as my little sister.

I totally, 100% agree Lorelei.  It's a growing problem with everyone, everywhere because the ingredients are so easy to get and it's easy to make.  When I lived in Eastern Washington (ie Pretty homophobic/very small gay population), it was the single biggest story on the news weekly for the entire 2 years I lived there.  Approximately 5 meth labs were busted or exploded weekly, and dozens of cars were broken into weekly by people stealing things to pawn for money to buy meth supplies.  I find it really appaling that it would be tied with a specific group - especially since it's known as a drug that crosses all lines of demographics!

IMO it's a serious disservice to everyone when things are published that call this a 'gay problem'.  Any widespread drug problem is everyone's problem, regardless of who is doing it.

I know! In Texas I can't buy OTC cold meds anymore without having to get them from the pharmacist and them writing my name down on a list. Isn't that crazy?

NC's moving in that direction too.  Sucks because Sudafed works like a charm for me when I have a cold/sore throat.  I swear by the stuff!  But if a little inconvenience on my part means that it'll help, then that's a step in the right direction, I guess.  Not sure how much it's going to help, unfortunately.

And yes, it's a shame that people think that this is a "gay problem" because it is SO much more widespread than that.  It's really frightening how many people are doing meth.  It's so destructive on a physical and social level.  I hate to be alarmist about it, but I really think it's well on it's way to being a major major issue in our country.

I am already getting used to it in Dallas, I just make sure and buy the maximum every time I can, but I sure hope they never take pseudoephedrine away or back to prescription only because I really need it for congestion, especially when ragwood and mountain cedar spores are up.

Back to topic though, I forgot to mention that this meth problem is even worse than most people realize, (or like those who have no clue what it is and actually think it's a "gay" problem) because it's considered harder to break addiction than any other drugs, according the the HBO special I saw.

In December's Teen Vogue there was an article about teen meth use. It also mentioned something about meth first being known as a "gay" and "biker" drug. That article also said it is one of the easiest drugs to get addicted to.

well the biker part actually does have history behind it.  going back to the 70's, supposedly it was the biker gangs that were meth's first drug "dealers" in the states, starting to bring it in from CA where the Hell's Angels started out and spreading the epidemic over the years to rural states. (Ohio or Iowa was one of the featured states in the doc I saw).  The epidemic has hit the gay community hard for sure, but it certainly didn't start there, and it's a shame that to some average joe who has no knowledge of how widespread the drug use is, he might read an article like that and think that the gays are somehow to blame.

I grew up in Nebraska and meth has been a problem there for years. In college, I remember this small town about 2 hrs away was known as "the crystal meth producing capital of the midwest." It doesn't surprise me at all that she was doing meth, because I have seen so many people from so many walks of life go down that path. Also, most of my male friends are gay, so I know that meth is becoming more commonplace in gay clubs and bars. I think its becoming more commonplace everywhere, though, and the gay community is no exception.

I live in Iowa, and as far as I know, we're know for the Cyclones, VEISHEA riots, and meth labs At least that's what we make the news for...

But, as far as I've heard, the Midwest is home to the bigger collection of meth labs (I know it's everywhere, but seems like it's here the most).

Blubirde: You can't buy Sudafed OTC anymore here either; I see why, but at the same time it's ridiculous...

One of my friends from HS went to college with her. He told me back then (this was '99ish) that she was a big drug addict...this problem has been a long time coming, I think. Poor Stephanie!
