Yes, I absolutely agree on this : The Witching Hour was my favorite also. I found Anne Rice  books while in college 16 years ago- when she was no more than a cult favorite among a small group of people. The vampire chronicles were the first ones I read. I was so blown away by her writing- I have always loved books that were "fantasy- horror" based and these were unlike anything I had ever read. The homosexual innuendos, were also so bold and ahead of her time. Sure, there probably were other writers out there at that time and prior, that braved this subject in such a way- I just had never read them. Also, her descriptions of New Orleans, Paris, Italy- she has a real strong sense "of Place". She puts you so completely in what ever area or person she is describing that it seems surreal. Describing such things as the architecture of buildings, to the texture of skin in its most intricate detail. When I saw a picture of her I was even more intrigued. The black hair, clothes, white, pale skin. It fit! The later books have been a disappointment to me, she has evolved, but dont we all, and her writing is different.

carries, the tale of the body thief was so good.  i am glad you have that one on your list.  i am realizing right now that i have totaly been reading the books way out of order. so now i think i need to catch up and read them in the right order.

i haven't read the claiming of sleeping beauty, but i was watching the biography of anne rice the other day and the way she talked about that book made me really want to read it.  i am going to pick it up at my barnes and noble tonight.

If you haven't read Memoirs of a Geisha, I'd suggest that.  I also heard that Oprah's newest Book Club book, Night, was good.

I read Night in a couple of hours. It was great but only 120 pages or so. This version has been condensed. My hubby bought it for me to read from NC to Chicago. I wish I had read the original longer version. I think i will check it out of the library.

what was I thinking - white oleander by janet fitch is still my absolute fav book of all time. I am also still reading the Chronicles of Narnia - I got the book with all 7 stories in it from Target - it's really easy reading since it's technically a kids book, but i really love reading it.

That book was so beautifully written. Did you see the movie? It ruined the book IMO.

yep, i hated the movie. I won't ever watch it again, but i've read the book several times. I swear I don't usually do that, but I have with 2 books talked about on this thread because they are my favs! And for whatever reason that book makes me want to read everything else they reference. I have made a list of books / poems / movies / music to read / watch / listen each time I read it. Is that weird??

I never knew the Vampire series was connected to the Mayfair series, so I'm super excited to read those

I didn't know this either. And I just found that I actually have Pandora, Memnoch the Devil & The Vampire Armand. It's my understanding that Pandora isn't part of the Vampire series though right?

I'm about to start Taltos since I have that one too. I've been picking them up cheap at garage sales. I'll be on the lookout for the others!

That other thread on what you are reading now made me feel bad that I had to say "nothing"!
