qixo.com - similar to sidestep, it searches a bunch of different airline sites.

I've really had the best luck with Travelocity. I love the "flexible dates" feature because most of the time I don't need to travel on specific days and I like to see what all the options are within a certain time frame. Once I figure out what the fares are like I'll go to the individual airline sites to see if they have a better deal but often Travelocity has the better fare.

I have this article saved from Taru that I have referenced several times.

i also use kayak.com - it's similar to orbitz but allows you to play with airlines/dates/times/airports more easily.  do a broad search, then narrow it down using the tools on the left side of the screen.

www.kayak.com

also, you don't book thru them, you actually book with the airline, which i prefer (you earn miles and have better seat selection if you book directly with an airline, and i travel a lot, so this is important to me).
