Handbags Question
Permalink Closed

I know MOST of you ladies love your handbags, so how many would you say you buy yearly? As for me, I'd say ONE a year, as I'm not very much into handbags, but I do have quite a few of them, I just never use them (for when I go out, etc.). That needs to change, they're all just sitting in a storage bin up in my closet........

Let me preface this by saying I luv handbags. I usually pick one up when I'm out shopping and see one I like. Mind you these are bags < $100 (ie. TJ Max, Urban...Fun, trendy handbags). Maybe one every 2 months.

But 2006 = the yr of quality handbags so I'm going to cut down on random "bag buys" and save up for better quality ones.

I LOVE bags.. They are my favorite thing to waste (err..spend) money on. I buy high quality expensive bags.. In 2005 I bought 1 BCBG, 1 Coach, 1 Chloe and 1 Marc Jacobs. I'd really like to cut that back to two a year. The CCs are screaming in pain from several thousands in bags each year.. Ouch!

I would say I usually buy around 4 per year. Some years I go a little crazier.

I bought QUITE a lot last year. It's so scary I don't want to think about it actually. But handbags always fit (even when your weight fluctuates) and they're always comfortable (unlike some shoes), so that's why I like them so much.

Last year I bought my first big fashion purchase, an LV Speedy 30. I just ordered a Maxx New York bag on sale at Bluefly for $140. In December I bought a DKNY that was on clearance for $100, and a Charles David for around $70. All the other ones were less than $50 (I think all were on clearance).

I really have enough handbags, but eventually in the future I want to invest in a Marc Jacobs bag, since I've loved the style for years. I saw a teal quilted barrell-shaped one at Neiman's last weekend.....DROOOOL!!!

bags are my thing - i don't splurge on anything else like i do on bags.  but i really believe in quality over quantity (my mother taught me well!) so i have a rule - 2 bags a year, 1 bag in the fall/winter and 1 bag in the spring/summer.  i start looking and thinking about it a few months before the actual purchase, so by the time i buy the purse, i've accepted that i'll be spending a lot on it and i've considered all the alternatives.  and my rule prevents me from making impulse bag purchases (even if they're inexpensive) - if i like it enough, i have to wait until the right time to buy it, even if it means waiting several months.

i've stuck to this policy for the last 4 or 5 years and i have a pretty cool collection of handbags as a result.  last year, i bought a cream marc jacobs bag in spring and i just bought a gucci around christmas.  they're expensive, but i've been planning it out for months.

now i have to wait until summer for my next splurge!

I would say maybe 1 every 1.5 months.  These are usually Target cheapies though but I'm trying to get away from that.  Now I ask myself if I would rather have this cheapo bag or save the money for a nice one.
