I'm so confused

Ok, so I just got into UF.  And this is really dumb, but I feel like crying, not because I don't want to go there, but I don't want to have to make a decision.  I got into my top two schools, UGA and UF, which are basically the same, just a little different atmosphere and locations.  On the one hand, I loved UGA and felt totally comfortable there, liked the people, liked the cute little town, liked the atmosphere.  On the other hand, I've grown up as a FL Gator, I can get free tuition, I will be closer to my family, and it has the warm weather (not a fan at all of cold weather).  If I go to UGA, I know I will meet awesome people and have a great time, but I will be so far away from my family and my sister, who is basically my best friend, and my other best friend K.  I still really like UF too though.  I will be totally fine at either one because they are so comparable but I just hate making these life altering decisions.  I don't know what I want yall to do about, just venting.

It's really important to just go with your instinct about where you feel more comfortable I think. Besides that, make sure the school you pick has everything you're looking for. I'm at my second choice school and while it had my favorite atmosphere and I love the campus, I didn't really research enough and it took awhile to realize that they don't have a debate team or mock trial team or model UN team, all of which I wanted. I also wanted to take Latin, which isn't an option either. I just assumed every school had these things and was really surprised to find out that we don't. That said, I'm arranging to take a Latin class over the summer and I've gotten involved with lots of other fantastic activities, but it was still a little disappointing. I'm a college freshman so my own decision wasn't made all that long ago. Let me know if you have any questions about anything!

Btw - Congrats!!! I really think that's an awesome decision to have to make, even if it is a tough one.

Congratulations!  That's so great that you were accepted to both of your choices.  I know how hard it is to make decisions like this (I just freeze up when I have to make any kind of important decision sometimes), but it is a time to celebrate.  You can be so picky now.  I agree with Shello:  if you are planning to join the debate team, look at the debate teams at both schools.  Which one seems better?  Look at the class schedule.  Does one have a more interesting program for your intended major?  Do you know anyone at either of these schools that you can stay with for a weekend?  If not, would you feel comfortable contacting someone you don't know (maybe the president of a sorority or club you might want to join) and telling them you will be up for the weekend and you would like to hang out and get a feel for the school?  This way, you can get a real feel of the social life and also how people feel about the school and the classes and you have the added bonus of having some new friends when you start school.

does cost stress you out at all? because i went to my state school only because it was cheaper, and while part of me wishes i could have let price not be a factor and gone anywhere, i know i made the right choice. i was choosing between a neighboring state's state school too- (university of delaware) and the differences weren't enough to make me want to go there instead. Do you feel comfortable/get good vibes from the florida school too?

Cost isn't too much of a factor because my parents have put funds away for college a long time ago.  I find out in March if I qualify for the out of state waiver for Georgia, but if I don't get it it won't be a huge deal.

I'm going up to Florida one last time in a couple weekends to see what kind of final vibe I get.  I wish I could be one of those intuitive people.  I tend to overthink everything and I can always see both sides rather than black and white, which is why this is all so confusing to me.  I just want to use an 8ball or something at this point (not that I would, but I'm tempted!).

Ok, this is weird, I had the opposite reaction. Reading the post, I sort of got the idea that your gut feels better about UGA, but you also feel like it's the smart thing to do to go to UF. Otherwise, why would your first reaction be to feel like crying? If you hadn't gotten in to UF, you wouldn't have had to make a decision and worry about how it's going to look to other people. I could be waaay off base, but you said positive things about feelings for UGA and positive things about "smart" factors for UF. So I think you feel good about UGA and want to look good for going to UF. Again, could be totally wrong.

Yeah, Dizzy, I think you are right.  It's sort of a head-heart conflict.  UF is practical but UGA is more impractical but _____ (can't think of the right word.  feels better??).  Sorry, I know I'm totally annoying and undecisive, I'm just driving myself crazy.

If you have any questions about UGA, let me know since I went there and know a lot about that school.

I know this must be a difficult decision...what exactly do you want in your college experience? Greek life? Certain clubs? Academic departments?

Have you decided on a major? If you are really dead set on one, maybe you could see who has a better reputation in that dept.?

When you visit each school I would maybe sit outside where you would live the first year and see what kind of vibe you get. I know it sounds really lame, but this is how I choose where to live and it works. Also if you like to go out, go out in the area so you can see if it is your scene.

I didn't go to UGA but a lot of my friends did and was in Athens for most of 20's! So I can also help if you have any questions. I have friends that were in sororities and some that weren't so I got a good mix of the town.

Ahhhh... that's a tough one. For what it's worth, the worst decisions I've ever made, about jobs to take, jobs to leave, stuff like that, (oh, and which college to go to...) were made when I let the "smart" factors override my gut. "Feels better" doesn't sound like much to go on, but there is probably information that your head has collected, but hasn't totally processed, sparking those feelings. For example, maybe you're worried if you're too close to your old friends and family, you won't get the total college experience of making new freinds? Or something like that. Good luck... It takes a lot to say "I'm making this decision for me, and no one else because I have to live my life." It can feel awesome, though. So you're not being annoying and undecisive. You're listening to yourself and taking the decision seriously.

Oh and Chic, I love your vibe test!
