After being w/Sprint for almost 7 yrs., I've JUST switched over to Nextel for their cell phone/Direct Connect services! I love the Direct Connect (for my job), and the cell services are pretty cool too; I miss that you can't see the name and number of the person calling you, it just shows their name, or at least my phone does! LOL I also (unless I haven't figured it out yet) miss that my friends/family can't just leave their number. Oh well, I now have to refocus my mind to Nextel-Sprint (since they merged) mode, I guess it'll take some time.

I haveNextel too. I have it because my husband uses it with the fire department. I agree I love the direct connect. But honestly I think the service is too expensive and I have a lot of areas with no signal. If it weren't for the fire department and the direct connect I'd switch.
Several of my friends had it and switched for the same reason, the costs are just too high. They also weren't impressed with the service or the reception and here in our area there are cell towers everywhere.
I know several other plans that are lower and also have direct connect, I'd switch if I had it.
What other plans are lower and also have Direct Connect? I'm very interested. I got Nextel for my job, but I did talk to a Sprint salesperson, they also have SPRINT Direct Connect, for Sprint phones only, so I wouldn't be compatible w/my job. Joe has T-Mobile, so......

Rates and plans can vary regionally, I would look into local providers in your area, call them and tell them your needs and ask about packages they can put together for you. If you tell them you are considering using there services and they come in higher monthly them your present plan, they may do a better plan for you.
Also, if you find a better plan, tell Nextel and they may be competitive in their rates.
Really the smartest thing is to do some research and make some calls.
