trying to understand weight issues

With all the problems I have had with my weight, from childhood to adulthood, I am trying to really get a grip on why it seems to be such a struggle for me. I know that the experts say it has to do with genetics, enviornment ( present and past), emotional responses, our modern sedentary lifestyle etc... but, how do these factors pertain to me? How do they effect you? I really want to understand , so I can overcome this , please share your thoughts, maybe in hearing others feelings about this challenge so many of us face we can find some answers for ourselves.    Here are some feelings I am aware of in myself:

1. In the past I have used my weight as a way to insulate myself from rejection. When you grow up as an overweight child you are teased, but you are also left alone. You become used to this, it is comfortable. Sadly, when I was 200+lbs I observed that men , and some women did not look you in the eye- we are a very visual society- and if you dont fit the concept of what is a socially acceptable weight you become invisable. But, I do not condemn men or women for this- I prefered not to be seen.

2. Fast, and  high fat foods were a way to treat myself, make myself feel better, obviously this is a problem.

3. Lack of excercize. This something I am still working on.

4. Not eating food to nourish myself, but to feed myself. In more ways than one.

There are more I am sure that I have yet to identify, I would like to hear from you and Im sure I will recognize more.

I have some similar problems.

By the time I get home from work and go to the gym- its 8pm. Which means that I have time to eat, get in the shower and watch some tv to relax then its like 10pm and by then I am exhausted. In there are two issues I am struggling with: I want to eat something quick AND healthy, and do I go exercise?

It helps to keep a journal of food, I really didn't realize that I wasn't eating enough calories- which is another reason I get so lazy sometimes.

It trully helps that you are aware of your struggles, and one by one you can solve them. Don't get discouraged if you fall back a step- everyone does. Its persistance that is the key!

Yes, I get home three days a week around 8:30 pm and I have to fight off the urge to not just grab anything that can reach my mouth the quickest. I have started making my dinner before I leave the house to go to work, so it is ready for when I get home. Excercize at this time? Forget about it! I do keep a journal also because I am on Weight Watchers and it helps to track my points. I am aware of my struggles and hope to modify my thinking , and behavoir. A side note: I think this post is probably difficult to identify with for the majority of stylethreaders. Most likely have never been clinically obese. At my heaviest I was 235 four years ago. Now, 166. I am never ashamed to admit this, post it, tell anyone that asks- because in the past it was connected with so much shame-not so now... I have came far, but do have more inroads to make. Thanks.

I get home around 8 pm also.  I have started to pack a lunch and a dinner when I am doing a 9-8 work day. This was my first week to do this and it has really made a difference.  I have eaten healthy and gone to work out 4 days this week.
