I feel so bad for my poor nanny . . .
Permalink Closed

She came over to my house this morning early (6:00 am) to pick up Lucy in hysterics.  Her husband confessed last night to cheating on her ALL throughout their 2 1/2 year marriage AND he's addicted to internet porn!  I am so worried about her.  She doesn't know what to do.  He is in the military and so is staying in the "barracks" (?) until Friday so she can have time to think.  He is very apologetic right now which makes it a very tough decision for her.  Anyway, I don't want to tell her what to do, b/c this is SUCH a personal and important decision (they have an adorable one yr old little boy too), but I want to bring her a gift basket today (a "Fuckit Bucket" as my friends in TX euphamistically like to call it).  I ony have time to stop by Borders near my office so I am going to stock up on things there.  Any ideas on what to include?  Here is what I'm thinking:

maybe a self help type of book IF I can find a good one;

a book on "cool" crafts (to distract her b/c she loves to make things)**I specifically want suggestions on this

a couple of magazines

chocolate

coffee

maybe some melatonin if I can find some (she has trouble sleeping)

tea

Any ideas?  She's young, hip and very creative and crafty and I think the craft book might slightly cheer her up.  Crafty girls--what are your favorites??  Would love any other ideas you girls have and please remember her in your prayers/thoughts.

She should dump him.  They may have a child together, but his behaivor is unexcusable!  For craft books I'm not sure what kind of crafts she enjoys, but I like books on making cards, small homemade gifts, beading, etc.  Or there are some good craft magazines that would have a variety of stuff in it.

Cortney--Thx for your response.  I totally agree that his conduct is inexcusable.  I want to get her a general craft book with a hodge podge of ideas.  I don't want it to be country at all though (i.e. no "home sweet home" embroidery projects).  I think I might get her this book (it was recommended on crafster):

What do you think?

that book looks cool. there are tons that look good though- I love to go to barnes and nobles and browse them. If you flip through a few, I'm sure you'll find one that's perfect!

That book looks too & i've read good reviews on the other book they have featured with that one
Bazaar Bizarre : Not Your Granny's Crafts!

Poor thing. It's really sweet of you to get this for her, I love the idea. Also, does she read? B&N has great bookmarks & those are cheap enough that can add to your gift & it look like more...

I recommend a nice blank journal and the book "The Decorated Page" by Gwen Diehn (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1579905129/qid=1138216740/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-6813194-6737607?n=507846&s=books&v=glance), plus chocolate.

Poor woman ... leaving is probably the right thing to do, but it's very hard to leave with such a small child. Maybe they could go to counseling?

Thanks girls.  Renee and laken--I like your suggestions but I didn't see them until now and I just got back.  here's what I got if anyone is interested:

the book "Travelling mercies" by Anne Lamott, which is somewhat of a spiritual book but very light and is supposed to be hilarious.  anyway, I think our nanny would love this book and the author

a cool beading magazine (she loves to bead)

a really cool magazine on collage and mixed media called "Cloth, paper Scissors"

a journal

gel eye mask

burt's bees almond milk hand cream

4 small Votivo candles (my favorite) in Joie de Vivre scent

set of 4 eucalyptus bath fizzies

2 OPI nail polishes and a nail polish basecoat (she loves nails)

2 really cute bobby pins/barrettes with decorative stones/beads on them (she loves hair accessories)

Melatonin

box of Whitmans chocolates

box of mentos candy (love these)

bag of miniature reeses

and a card

Oh and a cute little decorative box to put it in!

i recommend the book Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Its not self help per se, but its very reflective.

No recommendations, but I think that is so sweet that you are doing that for her, I'm sure she'll appreciate it.  I feel so sad for her and her little one.

That's a great gift basket.  Poor thing.  What an awful thing for her to have to go through.  Ugh!
