does this happen to anyone else, that some mornings you just feel like you are walking around in a daze and never really woke up? what causes this? it's driving me nuts.

i slept 7 hours last night, got up and went to work out (cardio and heavy weights for one hour), came home and had some juice, breakfast and coffee, and now i feel SO out of it at work.  like i can't concentrate and am half-asleep.

what causes this? it can't be lack of sleep, or exercise.  the only thing i can think of os that my period should be starting any day now.

I bet it has something to do with your period starting.  I always get really, really tired right before mine.  I can sleep for 12 hours and still be tired.  I found this information on the Lifetime website.

Sleep Zapper: Reproductive Hormone Fluctuations After ovulation, sleep-inducing progesterone levels may rise, making you feel especially sleepy. And discomfort due to premenstrual bloating can cause you to feel especially exhausted during the days before your period. Another notorious source of daytime drowsiness is menopause. In a recent National Sleep Foundation poll, 36% of women who were approaching or experiencing menopause reported nighttime hot flashes, which can cause you to wake up throughout the night and may also affect the quality of your sleep.
What you can do: If you suspect that hormones are the source of your exhaustion, keep a sleep diary and look for patterns that may correspond to symptoms such as PMS and hot flashes. Then make a few simple lifestyle changes. Exercise and a low-sugar, low-caffeine diet can greatly improve PMS. And thanks to their high estrogen content, soy products help ease many of the symptoms associated with menopause. If problems persist, you may want to ask your doctor about birth control pills, which may ease PMS symptoms, or, in the case of menopause, hormone therapy or alternative treatments for halting hot flashes.

I always feel this way when I'm woken up from a dream, therefore during deep sleep.

I feel the exact same way as you... Lately I have been especially tired, no matter what time i go to sleep, i can not get up in the morning, i know everyone has this problem, but lately its been really bad for me, ive been late to class alot... and they aren't 11:30 classes haha, they are 730am which means i get up at 6. Blah. I so wish i was a morning person.  Im thinking my tiredness has to do with my diet, i know i dont eat properly, dont get the recommended servings of vegetables meats etc.. so maybe an iron deficiency, ive suffered from this before and it severely drains my energy.

Do you take a daily multi-vitamin?  My boyfriend force feeds them to me, and honestly, I feel so much better and have way more energy now that I take them daily.

i used to, but lately i just forget.  i need to get back in the habit, because a daily multi-vitamin is really good for you.  i was just thinking maybe i'll get a bottle to keep in my desk--then i could for sure remember to take one at some point (i am chained here 9-10 hours a day!).

i would definitely take a multivitamin (because maybe you're not getting enough iron), and i would make sure that you have some protein in your diet in the morning.  i find that if i have my vitamins, 2 pcs. of turkey bacon (i also have oatmeal or an english muffin), and coffee, i'm ready to go in the morning.

I'm like this too sometimes and like today for example, I just can't shake the feeling of being out of it.

Personally, I wonder if it has to do with working out in the morning.  When I'm on vacation, I'll work out around 9 or so in the morning and that wakes me up, but I tried working out at 5:30 or 6am a few times and it actually made me feel more tired and more groggy.  I have no idea why that would be the case though.

I notice that a multi-vitamin helps too.  That, plus some protein and caffeine should get you going pretty well.

i ate a protein bar before my workout, and then some instant oatmeal, coffee with milk, and a pomegranate juice and diet tonic cocktail (to help with soreness) afterwards.  was that not enough protein?

i'm off to the drugstore right now to acquire vitamins.

i think it could be lots of things- they say that sleep takes a couple of days to catch up to you- did you get a good night of sleep the night before last night? also, does this happen often? another thing to consider is whether or not your 7 hours of sleep was a good night of rest- sometimes if there is light or noise you sleep lighter, or if there is something bothering/stressing you, even if its subconsciously. Also, i agree about drinking water and vitamins, and eating something with grains and proteins. I think coffee also makes people groggy eventually, do you drink it often or just occasionally? i know people that eventually ween themselves off of coffee tend to feel healthier and more awake. i don't really drink coffee becase caffeine makes my heart race (i love the taste though, so sometimes i drink decaf), and i almost never have a problem being tired or groggy. your period could def. be another reason.

thanks, lynnie--those are all good things to think about.  i have always been a really light sleeper, so any small bit of noise wakes me up, but i usually can get back to sleep pretty quickly.  i didn't think that i had slept any worse last night than i do any other night--but the night before, i was awakened by a 3:30 a.m. phone call (wrong number, a fax machine!) and had a hard time going back to sleep.  so maybe that was it.

i drink a lot of coffee, too.  mostly because i love the taste and the routine of making it in the morning, but maybe i should rethink that.  i have weaned myself off of afternoon coffee over the last year, though.

i am still thinking it's probably having to do with the time of month, but i will try to get to bed extra early tonight and just deal with it.

I just got back with getting my women's one a day multivitamins, also got some B12.  Does anyone know about taking B12, is it safe to take everyday, or should i just take it once a week? or every other day?
