quick BC question...
Permalink Closed

i have been on birth control for the past two months and ive been taking it at 12:15pm everyday. Now that its a new semester for me, my classes are at diff times and i can't take it at 12:15 anymore so i changed it to 1:00pm. As soon as i started my new pack on this past sunday, i started taking it at 1:00pm....is that okay to do?? Does this still make the past month of pills active, or am i like starting all over again? I had to change the time, otherwise id be in the middle of chem, bio and physics labs taking my pill everyday! Thanks girls!

I'm the same way as Carmen - I skip times around all the time, and I've never had an issue.

Funny, I'm having the same problem this semester.  I have an Art Rendering class right at the time that I should be taking my pill.  I'm bumping mine up an extra hour.  I think it should be ok though.  I moreso think they say that so you won't take a pill at 8am one morning and 9pm the next day.

It is okay as long as you take it within one hour of the time you last took it (the day before).  And the start if a new pack is a perfect time to switch the time you take it because you are starting fresh anyway.

I agree with Carmenb and ShopChicago

I have been on BC, wow! 6 years (Me thinks I am getting old)
I have never had a problem. They say if you take it within an hour of when you usually take it your fine. They actually say this as a "threat" you could say, for the girls that may not be good at taking theirs.

I am actually jealous that you can remember to take yours at the same time. I was horrible in college!

45 minutes isn't a big deal.  With most higher dose pills you need to make sure to take it within 3 hours or so of your 'normal' time, with lower dose pills you need to make sure to take it within an hour or two of your 'normal' time.  Otherwise your hormone levels can begin to fluctuate enough to allow you to ovulate, which could mean bad news bears.

I think it's fine.   I was on the pill for a looooong time (almost 8 years) and I was so bad about taking it at the same time everyday.  Basically I would take it whenever I remembered and there were lots of times I would totally forget and have to take two the next day.  Of course this isn't suggested, but I never had problems and never had any pregnancy scares.
