Ok, I need a dress for my 14 yr old daughter!
Permalink Closed

I have just been told my daughter (14) is going to her Cotillion in 2 weeks. Feb. 4 to be exact.

She never dresses up and is very much a Gap/J.Crew kind of girl. She needs something that she can wear a regular bra under, she will never deal with strapless!

Her coloring is medium brown hair, and she still has a tan from the summer. She is 5'4 and weighs about 120 and is a bit "top" heavy".

It can't be too frou-frou cause she's not a girly-girl, just more tailored and subdued. It also has to be a B&M store so I can just go get it and take it to a seamstress if I need to.

I have been on my shopping ban so I have stayed out of this thread and out of stores and now I have to shop ASAP!

Oh, if it's sleeveless any suggestions on a wrap/pashima?

I'd like to keep it under $250 and she wears my shoe size so shoes should not be a problem.

I'm not sure how dressy this needs to be, but Max Studio always has some feminine, but modest dresses

with something like this (which comes in a bunch of other colors - let's say she got it in brown) could be worn with a shrug for warmth...

Where I'm from, cotillion is a very big deal. And I believe long dresses are necessary. Do you have a Nordstroms? Here are a couple that seemed cute (although it's really hard to find something that's not strapless)

Ok, semi formal dresses as I just found out...its like pulling teeth to get an answer.

Detroit, she like'd your first and last picks, the red shirred and the black and Cortney's first dress are beautiful and she liked them.

So far this is her fave...

I think this is adorable and would be pretty with her brown hair.

Does it not need to be white?  We always do formal/semi formal white dresses for Cotillian.  I do love the FCUK dress, but it is pretty girly.  One of my friends has it.  It is super cute though.  I like the Nordstrom's dresses that detroit picked out.

*trying to think like a 14 year old girl*

i actually like the pink one the best, the one that your daughter liked. it's really pretty.

here are some others that i thought might catch a young lady's interest:

from macy's:

Maggy London Metallic Brocade Dress

that's it really...honestly, there's not much out there that i would want to wear to a high school dance type thing, even if it's fancier like a cotillion (i don't really know what this is, but im assuming that there will be other 14 year olds there). i like all of the dresses that detroit posted, any of those are cute. but yeah...i like the pink one the best.

try to be patient when you head out with her...i know i was a little witch when i would try and go dress shopping with my mom!
