The Melting Pot restaurant

Has anyone here ever been to one of these?  I'm thinking about going to the one here in Scottsdale, but I really don't know what to expect.  Guess that's part of the fun of trying new places, but I'm still curious.  It's a fondue restaurant for those of you that haven't heard of it.  Is it a long dinner?  $$$?

Thanks

I went last night and it was my first time there.  It was a loooooong dinner.  I went with my bf and for us each one drink, cheese fondue, salad, dinner, and dessert it was about $100.  With that said, I didn't really like it.  I loved dessert and the drinks so next time my bf and I will just do reservations for drinks and dessert.  The food was just okay IMO.  You cook the meats in a pot of broth (you pic your flavor) and it takes awhile to cook them so you are eating one bite every 2 min or so.  The cheese fondue was just okay to me.  I really wasn't all that impressed with the flavor.  HTH!

I ate there a couple of times over there years... and i agree with heatherlynn... The dessert fondue is really good... and i thought the cheese fondue was ok... but the main course (the meats and seafood)  were definitely not worth the money or the hassle... and also, alot of people i know think it is really gross that they are looking at all this raw meat on a plate, that they will eventually eat.

I've been there for the dessert fondues. They're not cheap, but they're soo good. I definitely recommend them. I would like to try the cheese ones because I had such a good experience with the chocolate fondue. It does take a long time, but the atmosphere is so relaxing and it's worrth the wait.

It is kind of fun in that it is an unusual dining experience.  However, I think it is a total rip off.  You could literally buy your own fondue pot and do it yourself for about 1/2 the price you pay to eat there.

I LOVE fondue restaurants.  We have an AMAZING, privately-owned one called the Magic Pot about a half hour away from me.  Every course is delicious and worth every penny.  It makes for a long night so make sure you are with company you enjoy!  I have been to 2 Melting Pot restaurants:  one in Arlington, VA and one in DC and they are good, but not as good as the place by my house.  I recommend doing one of those meals where you get a cheese fondue for an appetizer, a dinner fondue, and a dessert fondue to get the full experience.  For the dinner ones, you cook the food yourself in the broth on a skewer and then dip it into sauces.  At the Melting Pot in DC, the food kept sticking to the bottom, which didn't happen at the Magic Pot or the one in Arlington.  So, I do recommend the Melting Pot, but if you have another fondue place by you, I would try there first.

Go to the Magic Pot instead!  Better food and better atmosphere.   Definitely more romantic.

My bf and I went to the Melting Pot and loved it!  The atmosphere was really fun and romantic.. We did the 5-course meal, which took a long time to eat and was pretty spendy.  The next time I go, I would probably just order the cheese and dessert course since they were the best.

jacl started a post on fondue restaraunts a while back... i searched "fondue" and found it easily.  here was my response based on my experience at "the melting pot":

it is soooo good.  it takes a long time though.  We were there for about 2 hours.  We did three courses.

The first is cheese.  It comes with bread, veggies and apples to dip.

Next is your dinner.  You choose the base that you want your meat cooked in and you choose your meat.  you get veggies and potatoes with this course

and last is the dessert!  we chose flaming caramel chocolate and it came with pound cake, cheese cake, bananas, strawberries and marshmellows!  omg!  so good just thinking about it!

they have it all set up for you to choose different courses, meats, etc. based on how much you want to spend.  BF and i went and I had wine and he had a fountain drink and we spent $100.

hth!  let us know if you go... they are tons of fun!

I wore jeans, heels, and a cute top.  I was dressed appropriately, but I did see some girls in skirts or dresses.  I think it is up to you on how you want to dress.  I would say dress for a night out.  =)
