i found these great funky shoes on zappos and ordered them (delivered in two days- YAY zappos!) but they are both too big- is there anything i can do to make them fit better? i can insert a finger behind my heel in both pairs, so the normal insert and pads might not be much help. can a cobbler do anything for me or am i going to have to return them (or just pad them up and suffer?)

I say return too - Zappos makes it pretty much as painless as returns can be. I'd just order the same pairs in a size smaller ASAP, so you won't be without them long .

Zappos has free shipping and free returns, so, if they have the size down, it's totally worth it to return. I've used heel pads for shoes that are only a little big, but that sounds way too big- you probably won't wear them much, even though you love them, if they're that ill-fitting.
thanks for talking me into it- i called zappos up to return them and ordered the green ones in a size smaller (the pink were sold out, alas!)
thankfully zappos will ship them soon, but i'm feeling all kinds of self-pity over my lack of new shoes
