I get my hair cut/coloured/trimmed whenever I:
a) get really bored with it and feel like I need an update (this sometimes means a drastic cut, or just some more layers, or just some new colour)
b) feel like my ends are all gross, or my bangs are too long (I have some horror stories about cutting my own bangs, so usually I just go in for a free bang trim), or that my hair just looks bad because it has no shape and/or style

This ends up being about every 3 months, sometimes more depending on when I can go home- I go to university in the city, and am originally from a small town, so I like to get my hair done there because the price tag is so much lower- $65 for cut and colour vs. 130+ in the city. Yeesh, hair is so expensive!

When I was getting highlights, I went ever 8 - 10 weeks. Yeah my hair was very...uh..."rooty" for a week, but so is every other girl in LA. If I'm not coloring my hair, it's more like every 4 - 6 months. I'd LOVE to go to the salon all the time, but my income doesn't allow for it. To be fair, I do deep condition twice a week now and use gentler shampoos and conditioners so I don't get as many split ends and dry hair.

My hair is fairly long so I usually only go every 3 months or so (when I get my highlights). Too much after that and my hair starts getting really unruly. Even though I color it, I try to take pretty good care of my hair- it's really dry so I can get away with washing every three days and I only heat style twice a week max. I've also found using sulfate-free shampoos has helped my hair condition tremendously.

I'm actually at the 3-month mark now though and I'm going in for new color and cut tomorrow!

Over the past two years, I've had three haircuts.  I have really long, really thick, really strong hair, so I can get away with not cutting as often.  I think my last haircut was in the beginning of the the summer.  Before that, it was the previous fall and before that, it was in early spring. So, I guess that would be about every 6 months.  Right now, I think I'm about due for a cut.

I've also stopped dying my hair (permanent hair dye anyway) and have let it grow out to it's natural color.  I put semipermanent on it once in a while, but I don't have roots or anything to touch up, so it's not a big deal for me to not go to a salon.
