What are some good R&B/jazz songs? Well, I guess they don't have to be R&B or jazz. Just some good songs to listen to while people are eating dinner at a wedding.
Also, dance songs ... and list here your first dance/cake cutting/garter toss/last dance songs
cake: a song by sublime that had gwen stefani, something like i love her just a little bit more or something like that. can't remember the name
garter: a classic rock song, the corus was, there'll be no huggin' no kissin' until you make me your wife, so don't gi'me no lines and keep your hands to yourself.
bouquet: everybody got their something by nikka costa
we played one of the Verve Remixed albums for our cocktail hour, I think it was this one but I actually like the original, volume 1 better. They're lots of fun and have some classic jazz songs but versions most of your guests probably haven't heard.
we actually opted for something a little more down tempo to be played during dinner. we played the album Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto, which has a very cool, summery, Brazilian/bossa nova vibe. I think we ended up having to loop it because it wasn't quite long enough, but no biggie.
we danced to "Moon River" for our first dance
for the cake cutting I wanted to use "That's Amore" but DH vetoed it, saying it was too silly, which he may have been right but I still think it's cute.
we used "Fever" for the garter toss and "Who's That Girl" for the bouquet toss.
our last dance was to "Georgia on my Mind" but that's because we were moving to Atlanta after the wedding so that one probably doesn't work for everyone...
our ceremony guitarist played during the cocktail hour. i wasn't there, so i'm not sure what songs he played. :)
for dinner, the DJ played vocal jazz like etta james, ella fitzgerald, frank sinatra, louis armstrong, nat king cole, etc.
our first dance was to "the luckiest" by ben folds.
we didn't do a bouquet or garter toss. for the cake we used "baby (you've got what it takes)" by brook benton and dinah washington. for the last dance we used "last dance" by frank sinatra.

p.s. do *not* just let your DJ play whatever for dinner music (not that you would, but i just thought a public service announcement might be in order)...my DJ was at first very resistant to playing our music for dinner because she's "known for her dinner music" which she then told me was mostly Celine Dion. yikes. (she told me after the wedding she got many compliments from our guests on the music, esp. the dinner music, and then she acted like it was all her...haha)
