wah! I don't know what to do!

ok, so when I was making myself dinner, there was something in my eye like really bad, I looked couldn't find anything, and in my fiddling with my eyelids thought I dislodged whatever it was because I couldn't feel it any more.  so I'm sitting here and I start to itch under my left eye, I just thought it would go away - but no - it's gotten really bad and I have this huge hive under my eye! I put some cortaid on it, but I don't know what to do... I'm glad I had plans to lay low tonight - it looks horrible... any suggestions?  I can't think of anything I would have exposed myself that was out of the ordinary or that I could have had an allergic reaction to...

were you making anything with onions or peppers?

it sounds like you're just irritated from whatever was on your hands from cooking - i think cortaid is a great idea - you may want to take a benadryl, but it will prob be fine in the morning!

that's what I was thinking was it was something I prepared or ate - but all it was was a light spray of cooking spray on a pan, cauliflower, egg whites, a little salt and pepper - I can't imagine what it could have been... yeah - guess I just put more cortaid on it before I go to bed and hope for the best!  the thing is that I just got a hugely drastic haircut and I don't want to show up with new hair AND a freaky eye at work on Tuesday!

I almost posted pics of the new hair today, but I'm still messing with the styling, and want to wait until I've got it figured out before I post pics for the world to see! I really like it though - I didn't realize how thick my hair could be - honestly, I've never had it layered before...

Ouch, are you sure something didn't sting you?  That happened to my mother this summer, and she had a huge hive underneath her eye too.  She took some Benadryl(sp?) and it started looking better within the hour.

that's the thing is that it was almost like a sting - but it's winter in Michigan, so I can't imagine what could sting me... it seems to be going down, but I'll go see if we have some benadryl - thanks for the suggestion

yikes! I agree -- take a Benadryl & if it looks horrible in the morning, call somebody. I am sure it will be fine, though.

I am on the injured list tonight too. I pinched a major nerve in my shoulder plugging in a lamp. That's right, I am so unathletic that plugging something in causes me injury.  Anyway, I hope you feel better!

thank you for asking - actually - they are horrible (the other one reacted later) last night I went to bed with huge red welts slathered with cortaid around both of my eyes ...  I noticed that it would flare up when I would sit on the living room sofa, and it definitely seems like an allergic reaction to me.

The only thing that is "different" in the living room is two huge poinsettias from the holidays; one of which is super huge at around 3 feet tall and is placed in an urn on the sofa table behind the sofa.  Did some research, and although poinsettias being poisonous is a myth (the amount that would have to be ingested for it to be toxic is massive - and they attribute the poison myth to a child dying at the turn of the century, and a dr. blaming a poinsettia.)

BUT - if you have a sensitivity to latex you can have a severe allergic reaction to poinsettias, as they are from the same family of plants that produces latex.  I have a sensitivity to latex.  As of this AM all poinsettias are in the trash cans in the garage.

I used opcon eyedrops and cortaid this morning and the redness and swelling seem to be going down.  I really think it was that huge ass poinsettia...

I want to have pretty eyes for my new hair tomorrow

I'm really glad to hear that!  Maybe you should let them breathe for tonight with no cortaid and keep applying cold water or a cold washrag to bring down the rest of the swelling?  Just an idea so you have pretty eyes and pretty hair tomorrow!  Can't wait to see pics!
