We always talk about when to throw out your make up but what about perfume?  Does perfume go bad?  Is there a specific time when you know its time to throw out the bottle?

Most perfumes have a shelf life of about 5 years, give or take.  The higher quality perfumes will usually last a lot longer if cared for properly.  Perfumes should be keep in a cool, dry, and preferrable dark place or at least out of direct sunlight.  When a perfume "spoils" you'll notice the scent change and it often becomes thicker.  Sunlight can cause the color to change, this often won't affect the scent, but can cause the perfume to stain clothes.

Perfumes with all natural ingredients will spoil sooner.

I know some people say it goes bad in about a year but I have some Chanel stuff that's waaayyy older than that (my aunt used to buy it in bulk for me) and it still smells great.

Thanks girls.  I was just wondering since Escada discontinued Island Kiss and I love it and I finally found it and grabbed 2 bottles.  I would return one if it goes bad in a year or less.  When my grandma died I found an old bottle of gucci and that stuff still smells good.  I have no clue how old it is.
