Okay well My rott. Thunder has lost some weight. When he is outside in his pen he paces and plays with the dog that is behind him. He is very active we took him to the vet to have him looked over he is healthy, no worms or anything. We put him back on puppy food and the vet says to put a little cooking oil in his food this will make him eat it easy. We also decided we are going to keep him inside more unless we are are gone fr a long while. Okay sorry for rambling on, Any other suggestions to help him gain weight, what about can food mixed with his dry?
Thanks alot - oh he is almost a year and half and I feel so bad for him because he should weigh more
my mom fed our dog so much chicken and gaines burgers that she was waaayyy overweight.
so that works.
we had a old english sheepdog that weighed 130. it made me sad. my mom has a horrible habit of overfeeding animals. she has never had a normal weight animal.
1 boiled chicken breast and 2 gaines burger patties everyday. i'm not sure about health factors here.
but as soon as your dog gains enough weight, put her back on normal dog food.
editied to avoid confusion...
gaines burgers are dog food :)

my dog is always inside, unless we leave for a lot of hours we put her in our backyard. we only feed her twice a day, and i do notice when my 3year son wants to play w/her, which is very often, she dosen't eat as much. so i have to keep my son away until shes done eatting. dont know if this helped in any way but im very glad to hear you dog is healthy. I wish i had an issue on how to gain weight!
I would say just go along with the suggestion of the Vet because overfeeding him with "people" food may clog his arteries eventually. And you want him to live a long healthy life.
The puppy food should definately do it though. Its filled with fats to help puppies grow.
thanks ladies yes puppy food has more fat thats why I went back to it, so iam thinking it will take time and keep him away from the back yard as much as possible but i still want him to get his excerise.
Tati yes it helped i have to keep the distractions away in order for him to eat
Oh I took some pic of him this morning i could not help it
Thunder looks great. I think most dogs these days are overweight. You should be able to feel the ribs under the skin, but not see them. Also, most breeds, including Rotts, should have a visible waist. How much does he weigh and how much does your vet think he should gain?
Most dogs love raw eggs and you can mix that in with dry food. The egg will also make his fur nice and soft. However, Thunder looks like he already has a really nice coat. Low sodium chicken broth is also a good "soup" for the dry food.
Thunder looks like such a fun dog. My dog Mitch would love to play with him! All the other dogs that Mitch knows are older and not as playful as he would like.
LuckyLily thanks for the tip on the chicken broth in fact I have tons of it i can start to use. Well thunder weighs 88 pounds, he went for his yearly check up and shots in nov and weighed 96 pounds. The vet said he could stand to put on weight, in fact when he stands in a certain way you can see his ribs
I guess when I see l pic of other rotts they are muscle and much bigger and they are so beautiful
Well Thunder loves to play and he always in the same room where we are except when he wants to sleep in the kitchen floor, much cooler
I am glad you are going to start keeping him inside! I am a little crazy, but I think all dogs should be indoors at least part of the time. Will he bother your bunny?
My dog Sully is extremely skinny -- his foster mom gave me a recipe for some homemade, high-fat dog treats. I can send it to you if you want. It's kind of a lot of work up front, but the recipe makes tons, so it will last a couple of months. I think they are called Satin Balls, but around here we call them Fat Cakes. LOL
ETA: I forgot to say he is gorgeous. I saw a rottie puppy yesterday at the dog park...SO cute!

HB thanks and I would love that Fat Cake recipe . Well when thunder comes inside we will just have to make sure bunny is outside in his cage, because yes thunder will go after him in fact I moved the bunny to the side yard away from thunder's views because when he comes out of his pen and sees the bunny he goes a little crazy trying to get it. That way when thunder goes outside to the bathroom he cant get to him.
