Fondue restaurant?

What is a fondue restaurant like?  I am thinking if trying one out (not one in particular) based on a reccomendation but I don't know anything about fondue.  Is your whole meal fondue?  I don't get it.  Please help.

Yep - your whole meal is fondue.  The Melting Pot is good and is in Chicago (and surrounding burbs) - go to the website and check out the menu, maybe that will help.  http://www.meltingpot.com//index.htm

I fondue!!

your whole meal is fondue... cheese course and desert are pretty straightforward. For the main course you cook meat/veggies in the pot (usually in a wine based liquid) and then dip them in sauces. MMmmmm.... now I want fondue!

I love fondue! It's great. We go and just have the cheese fondue for 3 people. It's less than $20 and fills you up.

I went to a fondue restaurant for my bday. We got the fondue for two, which included cheese fondue (with veggies, bread, and fruit), a salad, and a meat selection (we chose lobster and filet mignon, of which I didn't eat any). It was waaaaayyy too much food. I was full after the cheese thing and especially the salad. I wanted chocolate dessert too but it was too much! I couldn't even eat any of the meat portions, not that I really minded but still!

it's actually a chain that is all over the mid-west- we have 2 here in Columbus, OH.

it is soooo good.  it takes a long time though.  We were there for about 2 hours.  We did three courses.

The first is cheese.  It comes with bread, veggies and apples to dip.

Next is your dinner.  You choose the base that you want your meat cooked in and you choose your meat.  you get veggies and potatoes with this course

and last is the dessert!  we chose flaming caramel chocolate and it came with pound cake, cheese cake, bananas, strawberries and marshmellows!  omg!  so good just thinking about it!

they have it all set up for you to choose different courses, meats, etc. based on how much you want to spend.  BF and i went and I had wine and he had a fountain drink and we spent $100.

hth!  let us know if you go... they are tons of fun!

Oh sorry, I should have mentioned that.  I only mentioned Chicago, because jacL lives there

Ok, this sounds really yummy.  The boy and I are having friends visit this weekend, and I really hope everyone will be up for this.  Thanks girls, for enlightening me!

I have been wanting to go to a fondue restaurant forever. Do any San Francisco gals know if there are any around here?
