I'm kinda confused on your question - How are you claiming Head of Household?  I'm not familar with your family situation so please forgive me.

Oh I just mean that no one can claim me as a dependent. But I do not have any dependents.

I think for head of household you have to claim a dependent to get that status (I maybe wrong though) so you'd still be filing single.  I can check my becker book tonight and see if it has the criteria and post tomorrow.

i know that you can, but i personally have had a bad experience with it in the past. the last time i claimed myself as an exemption i ended up owing money, so i went back to zero. on the other hand i got a huge tax return last year (claiming zero) so i feel like there must be some sort of middle ground wherein i don't owe the gov. money, but i get to keep more of my check instead of letting the gov hold it for me.

Yah I had hoped that by claiming myself I would reach the middle ground. I haven't had much experience with taxes since last year was the first time I worked throughout the whole year. I was hoping for a little money back or at least not owe anything..

I think for a lot of people if you are single and claim 1 you will end up owing taxes. When I first started working everyone told me to claim 0 and I always got money back. Then I moved and had to fill out new forms and I must have accidentally put 1 and it took me 2 horrible years to figure out why I kept owing money.
